To all ywhom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES M. FINE, of Beaver lalls,in the county of Beaver and in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in'Cast-ing Lugs on Stove-, PIates; and

and exact description thereof, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a partof this speeification. p

The nature of my invention consists' inconstrncting, as hereinafter described, the patterns andchills 'for castingstovefplates, stove-doors, or other artieles,"`so tlnitlngswill beiformed on such castingwith holes through them, obvating they necessity of drilling such holes after the oasting'is completed, as non mostgenerally done. j l p In order to ena-ble others skilled in theart towhieh my invention appertainstomake and'use the same, I Vwill-now proceed 'to describe its construct-ion and operation, referring to the annexed drawings/which representthe patterns, and will he hereafter further reterreni-to,

A represents'the pattern, having it 1ug,.B, formed upon it. This lug is cnttransversely, with a slotvof such depth` that its inner end will be at the point where itis desired to form the hole in lug on the casting.

The whole pattern, with the chill and the pin. are

then imbedded in the sand, and the pattern with-v d1 'a,\\'u, the chill and-pin remaining; lVhen, noivfthe molten iron is poured into the mold, it iiows into the chill around the lpin I), forming :t lng with a hole through it. When the casting is taken ont of the mold the chill'G and pin` D are readily removed.

I do not confine myself. to any particular shape or size of the chill or cap C, as they may be of any desired form', either long Orshort.
