The: principal. object of this invention istoprovide a shuttle ofthe so-c alled' hand= threadingtype which shall be free- :of the slit-forming tongue or the like, now com+ mon'ly-employed in effecting the introduction of the thread to the thread-guiding eyelet corporate. a. tension means in a removable structure forming a part of the hand-thread ing means.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a plan view of the improved shuttle; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of that end-portion of the shuttle to which the subject of the present invention relates; Fig. 3 is a similar view, showing the shuttle partly in section on the line 10, w of Fig. 1 or w, w of Fig. 6; Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line w-m of Fig. 2; Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line yy of Fig. 2; Fig. 6 is a sectional view on the line az of Fig. l; and, Fig. 7 shows a removable part of the shuttle removed and in side elevation.

In threading the shuttle, the weaver passes the filling first between the guard s and the wall 2", until the filling will be admitted to the slits q q. The filling is then entered into said slits, having first forced back the tension plate will extend between the same and the plate h. Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a shuttle, a. filling-tension device inv clu'ding two. coacting filling-gripping members having relatively broad filling-grip-' ping faces bearing flatwise against each other and each extending substantially vertically, one of said 'meinbers being elastically held against the other and pivoted on a substantially horizontal axis below said gripping faces, the 'space formed between said members when the pivoted member is moved out of contact with the other member Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the having an unobstructed downwardly open entrance thereto whereby to admit the filling between said members by a downward movement thereof, substantially as described.
2. In a hand-threading shuttle, the combination of a shuttle body, a supporting part arranged therein and having spaced lateral projections formed with filling-guiding slits and also having a filling-holding tongue projecting toward one end of the shuttle body, means, carried by said part, for retaining the thread in said slits, and a spring actuated tension member arranged between said projections .and normally held in filling-gripping relation to said supporting part, said tension member being arranged substantially vertically, pivoted at or near its lower end and having its upper end-portion exposed for manual engage ment. a
