Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern: I

Be it known that I, EARL R. SNEDAKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia or game apparatus which requires nerve and skill in its manipulation to accomplish the result.

A further object is to provide a device of this character with a plurality of partitions having slots and openings through which. a bar is positioned, and a ball is provided which is adapted to be supported on the bar and manipulated thereby through the several openings in the partitions without falling from the bar, said openings being out of alinement making the operation a diflicult one.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1, is a perspective view illustrating my i1nprovements. Fig. 2, is a fragmentary view in cross section through the rear end of the device, and Fig. 3, is a view in longitudinal section through the center of the device.

1, represents a base which is preferably rectangular and provided around its edges with walls or flanges 2. Throughout the length of the base, a plurality of vertical partitions 3 are secured, and spaced apart. While I have shown five of such partitions, I would have it understood that I may change the number at will. Between the rearmost partition 3, and the rear end of the base, a block 4 is located, and has its upper face inclined to its center where a groove 5 is provided. All of the partitions 3 are provided centrally with vertical slots 6 which aline with the groove 5, and are adapted to receive a bar 7 which projects through the notched end 8 of the end wall 2, and is provided with a handle 9. This bar 7 has its upper edge curved transversely in conformity to the curvature of a ball 10, and block 4 is recessed as shown at 11 to guide the ball in position onto the edge of bar 7. The several partitions are provided with openings 12 communicating with the slots 6, and of a size just sulficient to allow the ball 10 to pass therethrough. It is to be understood that each partition has but a single opening 12, and that the openings in the several partitions are out of alinement so that the bar 7 must be nicely manipulated up and down to convey the ball through the several openings without knocking the ball off the bar. The game is therefore one of skill requiring a steady nerve, because the sllghtest movement will drop the ball off the bar. To render the game more interesting, I have marked the several partitions in order as follows: Field, First base, Second base Third base and Home The game therefore represents a baseball game, so that theoretically the ball passes first through the field and then the runner reaches first base, second base, third base, and home. If he reaches home, the puzzle has been accomplished.

In constructing the device, I preferably use wood for the several parts with the eX- ception of the ball which I preferably make of composition, but I would have it understood that the particular materials are not essential, because they may be varied to suit conditions.

Various slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departing from my invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A device of the character described, comprising a base, a vertical partition on said base having a slot therein, and an opening in said slotted portion, a bar positioned through the slot, and a ball adapted to be supported on the bar and manipulated through the opening, substantially as described.

2. A device of the character described, comprising a base, a plurality of vertical partitions on the base, said partitions having alined slots, openings in said partitions in the slot-ted portions thereof, said openings through said slots, and a ball adapted to be supported on said bar and manipulated thereby to pass the ball through the said openings in the partitions, substantially as described.

3. A device of the character described, comprising a base, a vertical partition on said base having a slot therein, and an opening in said slotted portion, a bar positioned through the slot, a ball adapted to be supported on the bar and manipulated through the opening, said bar having its upper edge curved concentrically with the curvature of the ball, and a handle on the outer end of said bar, substantially as described.

4. A device of the character described, comprising a base, a plurality of vertical partitions on the base, said partitions having alined slot-s, openings in said partitions in the slotted portions thereof, said openings being out of alinement, a bar positioned through said slots, and a ball adapted to be supported on said bar and manipulated thereby to pass the ball through the Copies of this patent may be obtained for said openings in the partitions, said bar having its upper edge curved concentrically with the curvature of the ball, and a handle on the outer end of said bar, substantially as described. v

5. A device of the character described, comprising abase, a wall around said base,

a plurality of vertical partitions on saidbase, said partitions all having registering" longitudinal slots therein, openings in said partitions in the slotted portions thereof, said openings being out of alinement, a bar projecting through all of said slots, a ball, a block secured to the rear end of said base, a central groove in said block receiving said bar, and curved recesses at opposite sides of said groove supporting the ball in position on the bar, substantially as described.
