To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Vi'KToR SoHILn, a citizen of the Confederation of Switzerland, residing in Brienz, Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electric Sad-Irons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved electric sad-iron, in which a comparatively thin bottom-plate and a thick and heavy cover-plate are used so as to permitthe transmission of a greater quantity of heat to the bottom-plate and of a lesser quantity to the cover-plate.
Heretofore electric sad-irons were 7 made in which the cover-plate rested directly on a comparatively thick and heavy bottom-' plate. These irons were objectionable, as too little heat was transmitted through the bottom-plate and too much heat transmitted to the cover-plate owing to the large contact surface between the same. In electric sad-irons made in one piece, too greata quantity of heat was likewise transmitted to the upper or covering portions of the same. The use of these sad-irons was comparatively expensive owing to the great heat transmission to the covering portion and the too small heat transmission to the bottomplate.
The object of this invention is to furnish an electric sad-iron by which the defects referred to are, obviated, and the'invention consists of an electric sad-iron comprising a flanged bottom-plate, a cover-plate, and a heating-element supported on the bottomplate, the bottom-plate being provided with raised center and corner-portions for the heating-element. The cover-plate rests by its thin lower edge on the recessed flange of the bottom-plate tact-surface with the bottom plate, -which heating-element is supported in such a manner that it does not come in contact with the cover-plate.

The bottom-plate a is made comparatively thin, while the cover-plate is made thick and heavy so that the greatest possible quantity of heat is transmitted through the thin bottomplate and the least possible quantity of heat to the cover-plate, owing to the small contact-surface between the two plates. The cover-plate is attached by fastoning-screws f, f at the front and rear end to the bottom-plate a.
The improved electric sad-iron furnishes greatly increased heat-transmitting elfects and a saving in current as compared with the sad-iron heretofore used.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
An electric sad 'iron comprising 'a bottom plate having a recessed flange on its upper edge, an arched cover plate having a dependent lip on itsunder side engaging said recessed flange, aheater disposed in said of contact with said cover plate, and means for securing said plates together,
