SAD-IRON HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 30, 1913.
Application filed June 27, 1913. Serial No. 776,075.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE D. WOOD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Belmont, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sad-Iron Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved ironing board provided with a sadiron holder, the object of the invention being to provide an ironing board with a sadiron holder attached thereto, with the surface of the holder upon which the sadiron is adapted to rest arranged substantially flush with the upper surface of the ironing board.
The object of the invention is further to provide an ironing board with a sadiron holder so attached thereto that the user of the'sadiron can push the same onto the sad iron holder without lifting the sadiron and still further the object of the invention is to attach the sadiron holder to the ironing board in such a manner that the ironing board will not be scorched or injured by the hot iron when the same is placed upon the holder. This is preferably accomplished by inserting the sadiron holder in a recess formed in the ironing board and by interposing between the sadiron holder and said ironing board a lining of insulating material, such as asbestos.
The invention consists of an ironing board with a sadiron holder fastened thereto, said sadiron holder being constructed substantially in accordance with the followingspecification, all. as hereinafter set forth in the claim.
Referring to the drawings: Figure 1 is a plan view of an ironing board with my improved sadiron holder attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a plan view enlarged of the sadiron holder. Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Like numerals refer to like parts throughout the several views of the drawings.
In the drawings, 5 is an ironing board of usual construction having a covering of cloth 6.
7 is the sadiron holder which consists of a metal plate having a circular outer rim 8 and a circular inner rim 9, said rims being connected together by radial arms 10, said radial arms being connected together by concentrically arranged ribs 11, said concentrically arranged ribs being joined to each other and to the rim 8 by radial ribs 12. This arrangement of rims and ribs provides in said holder a plurality of orifices 22 which make the sadiron holder light and cheap and also tend to keep the same cool through the circulation of air therethrough.
The holder is provided with ears 13 extending outwardly from the rim 8. A recess 14 is provided in the board 5 which extends part way through said board from the upper surface thereof and in said recess the sadiron holder 7 is located, the ears 13 fitting into recesses 15 therefor in the upper surface of said board.
A lining 16 is provided in the recess 14 and consists of a disk 17 and an annular rim 18. The holder 7 rests against the rim 18, clamping the lining in position in the recess 14, and there is an air space 19 between said holder and the disk 17. A flange 20 extends partly around the holder 7 and projects above the surface 21 upon which the sadiron is adapted to rest.
The device is used in the following manner: When the user of the sadiron desires to place it upon said sadiron holder it is slid along the surface of the cloth covering 6 and onto the upper surface 21 of the sadiron holder without lifting the sadiron. The flange 20 acts as a stop to prevent the sadiron from being pushed off of the holder 7. The air space 19, together with the heat resisting lining 16, prevents the heat of the sadiron from scorching the wood of the ironin board.
Iaving thus described my invention, what I claim and desire by Letters Patent to secure is:
In combination, an ironing board and a sad iron holder inserted in the upper face of said board, said holder consisting of a metal plate provided with a plurality of orifices and a flange extending partly around the outer edge of said holder and projecting abovethe surface of said holder upon which said sad iron is adapted to rest, said flange being located on that portion of the outer edge of said holder adjacent to one end of said ironing board, said ironing board having a recess therein beneath said holder and a lining of insulating material in said recess, said lining consisting of a, disk in the my hand in presence of two subscribing witbottom of fsaid reeceissd aid an 8151111118.! rim nesses. extending rom sai is upwar y to said holder, whereby said lining is clamped in GEORGE 5 position, there being an air space between Witnesses: said holder and disk, SYDNEY E. TAIE'I,
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set MARGARET E. HORN.
