EMIL WITZENMANN, OF PFORZHEIM, GERMANY.
STICK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 4., 1912.
Application filed March 18, 1912. Serial No. 684,384.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMIL WITZENMANN, a German subject, residing at No. 48 Holzgartenstrasse, Pforzheim, Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sticks, of which the following is a specification.
The subject of this invention is a walking or riding stick made of metal and which is elastic so that it can be bent.
According to my invention the stick consists of a so-called spiral metallic hose, 2'. e. a hose formed of a spirally-wound metal tape of suitable cross-section. This tape is of spirally wound material provided with inturned edges adapted to movably interlock, as shown in Figures 2 and 3. Within such hose elastic means are provided which are firmly connected with the ends of the hose.
The accompanying drawing shows a form of construction of the invention, Fig. 1 being an elevation, Fig. 2 a sectional view, drawn to a larger scale, of the upper end of astick constructed according to this invention, Fig. 3 an enlarged sectional View of the lower end thereof.
As will be seen from the drawing, the stick consists of a spiral metallic hose a and an elastic rod or the like I) which is suitably secured to the ends of the hose (4 and may be made, for instance, of spirally wound means 5. The edges of the tape are adapted to movably interlock.
'With the form of construction represented the stick is made to taper from the handle d toward its lower end, but any other shape may be given to the stick.
What I claim is:
1. A stick comprising a spirally wound metal tape provided with edges movably 'interlocking, elastic means disposed within said spirally wound tape, and means connected at the opposite ends of said elastic means and bearing against the opposite ends of said spirally wound tape.
2. A stick comprising a spirally wound metal tape provided with edges movably interlocking, a coiled spring axially of said spirally wound tape, means for connecting the ends of said spring with the ends of said tape, and a jacket around said coiled spring.
In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name this 28th day of February 1912, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
V EMIL WITZENMANN.
