To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE W. PURCELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Mop Holders and Wringers, of which the following is a specification. v

This invention relates to a combined scrub-brush, mop and mop wringer, and has particular reference to such a device formed of few and simple elements which are posi tive in operation and simple in construction. An important object of this invention is to provide means whereby the scrubbing and mopping processes .may be carried out at the same time, subsequent to which the mop may be wrung before the machine is put away. 4

A further object of this invention. is to provide a device of the above mentioned character, which is cheap to manufacture and highly capable of fulfilling its function.

Other ob ects and advantages of this invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.

In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device, Fig. 2 is a side view of the same, showing the elements in the positions they occupy when the mop is being wrung, and Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the device showing the mop in the position it assumes when it is to be used.

In the drawings wherein is illustrated a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates a main frame, having the shape as shown and comprising spaced substantially L-shaped sides 2. The sides 2 are provided at their forward ends with 'cutout portions 3, for receiving the upper edge of a bucket 4 or the like. Tothe forward end of the sides 2 is rigidly connected a head 4 of a scrubbing brush 5, said head being positioned between the sides, as shown. Between the substantially L-shaped sides 2 and at their apices is disposed a roller 6, mounted upon a rod or shaft 7 extending through the sides 2. A co-acting roller 8 is disposed near and spaced from the roller 6 and is mounted upon a shaft or rod 9, connecting corresponding ends of side strips 10 of an auxiliary frame, which is substantially U-shaped. Corresponding substantiallyL-shaped si es'2 are pivotally rear ends of the connected with the side strips 10, as shown The side strips 10 of the auxiliary frame extend longitudinally to form handle re ceiving strips 12,'connected at their rear ends by a transverse section of material 13. A handle 14 ispositioned between the strips 12 and is pivotally connected therewith by a bolt 14 or the like. The handle 14 is provided near the section of material 13 with guide brackets 15, for holding a longitudinally movable bolt or catch 16, adapted for engagement and disengagement with the section of material 13. The bolt 16 is provided near its opposite ends with knobs 17 and 18. The handle 14 has a strip 18 connected with the forward end thereof and extending beyond the handle, as shown.

The numeral 19 designates a mop formed of a plurality of strands of cord, rope or rags, which are passed through the body portion of a metal holder 20, having its free ends bent outwardly, as shown. A catch 21 .is fixedly secured to the head 4 and is adapted for detachable connection with the holder 20.

In the use of the device, the mop 19 has its inner end disposed between the rollers .6 and 8 and the holder 20 is detachably connected with the fixed latchor catch 21. The free end of the mop extends beyond the brush 5 and mops the floor in advance of said brush. Attention is called to the fact that in operation, the mop 19 is on top of the brush 5, whereby the weight of the mop serves to press the brush into engagement with the floor. The operator may now both scrub and mop a floor at, the same time. The bolt is now positioned for holding the handle 14 parallel between the strips 12. When it is desired to wring the mop 19, the bolt 16 is moved to disengage the section of material 13 and the main and auxiliary frames having been placed horizontally upon the bucket 4, as shown in Fig. 2, the handle'14 may now be swung upwardly to assume the vertical position. The operator now holds the handle 14 for retaining the device upon the bucket. He then takes hold of the holder 20 and draws the mop 19 between the rollers 6 and 8, at the same time exerting proper pressure upon the handle 14, whereby said rollers 6 and are forced together to squeeze the water out of the mop. ,The handle 14 may,

I wish it understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that certain changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit ofthe invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
