To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ROLLA' M. HEATH, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nail- Brushes, fully described and represented in the following specification and the accompanying drawings, forming a part of the same.

This invention relates to improvements in nail cleansing brushes of the kind provided with a row of bristles or the like designed to pass under the ends of finger nails for the purpose of cleansing them and those portions of the finger tips which they cover; it being the object of the present invention to provide a brush having such row of bristles or the like with a guide for engaging the outer surfaces of the finger nails and holding them in proper relation to such row of bristles or the like as the brush and hand are moved relatively to each other in the cleansing operation so as to insure the entrance of such row of bristles or the like between the ends of the finger nails and the portions of the finger tips which they cover.

As a full understanding of the present invention can best be had from a detailed description of an organization embodying the same, such description will now be given, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a nail brush embodying the present invention in its preferred form. Fig. 2 is a cross section of the same.

Referring to said drawing, 1 represents the sup-port or body of the brush, in the under surface of which is mounted the usual mass of bristles 2, or the like, designed for cleansing the hand. The upper surface of the support or body 1 is provided with two parallel strips 3, 4, in which are mounted two rows 5, 6 of bristles or the like extending in opposite directions, each of these rows being designed for cleansing the under surface of the finger nails and those portions of the finger tips covered thereby. The

upper surface of the support or body 1 is concave, as shown, and such concaved surface and rows 5, 6 of bristles or the like are so related to each other, as will be observed, that when the finger tips rest with the outer surfaces of the nails against such concave surface of the support or body 1, the finger tips will be presented in such position relatively to the row 5 or 6 of bristles or the like that the latter will readily enter between the finger nails and the portions of the finger tips which they cover, so that, as the brush and hand are moved relatively to each other in the cleansing operation, such row of bristles will pass under the nails of the several fingers and properly cleanse the same. The upper concave surface of the support or body 1,at least that part of it which serves as a guide for the fingers,is covered with suitably soft material 1, such, for example, as a suitable teX- tile fabric or leather for polishing the outer surfaces of the nails during the cleansing operation, the upper surface of the support or body 1 thus serving not only as guides for the finger tips during the operation of cleansing under the finger nails, but also the function of polishing the outer surfaces of the nails. The strips 3, 4 in which the rows 5, 6 of bristles or the like are mounted may be secured to the support or body 1 in any convenient manner, and, in order to cover up the space between the adjacent rear faces of these strips so as to prevent the entrance of water, soap or other matter into such space, a strip 7 of suitable fabric or leather may be laid over the upper surfaces of said strips 3, 4 and cemented thereto and also at their ends to the upper surface of the body or support 1.

Modifications may be made in this construction without departing from the pres ent invention.
