SAMPLE FOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED ocT. 3,1911.

W/iBrtsa/Z \VALTER H. BRITSCI-I, OF FAYETTE, OHIO.
SAMPLE-FOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 3, 1911.
Patented June a, 1912. Serial No. 652,524.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER H. BRITSCI-I, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fayette, in the county of Fulton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sample-Folders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawm s.
This invention is an improved sample folder for use by dry goods merchants in giving out samples of goods and to avoid the waste of goods resulting from the giving of samples in the manner ordinarily practised by cutting them from the goods when ever applied for, my invention consisting of a sample folder comprising a strip of connected sections corresponding in length to the desired samples and having a sample strip of goods on one side thereof, each section of the folder containing memoranda with respect to the goods represented by the sample strip, the sample folder being adapted to be placed in a roll of goods so that it may be readily taken out and a sample cut therefrom as hereinafter more particularly described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a sample folder constructed in accordance with my invention, showing the same folded and placed in a roll of goods; Fig. 2 is a detail perspective View of my improved sample folder, showing the same removed from the roll of goods; and Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of my improved sample folder showing the same in opened, extended position.
In accordance with my invention I provide a sample folder 1, which, in practice, is a strip of paper or other suitable material of appropriate length and width, the said folder being adapted to be doubled or folded and to be placed in a roll of goods in connection with which it is to be used, as indicated in Fig. 1. This folder is provided, preferably at its outer end, with a memorandum section 2, containing blanks to be filled in by the clerk, identifying the goods, for the convenience of the merchant, and, for instance, indicating the kind and cost price of the goods, the name of the wholesaler from whom the goods were bought and also the date. Any suitable preferred form of memoranda may be used and I do not limit myself in this particular. I also provide a memoranda strip 15 which is preferably made of paper, and preferably corresponds in length and width with the folder. This memoranda strip is placed in the folder and secured thereto at one end. The memoranda strip is made of a series of connected sections 3 which extend from end to end thereof. Each section is printed and provided with a memorandum and blanks to be filled in by the clerk, identifying the goods and, for instance, indicating the kind and retail price thereof, the name of the merchant or merchant firm from whom the sample was obtained and also the date. The memoranda may be varied as may be required and I do not limit myself in this part-icular.
hen using my improved sample folder a strip of the goods, indicated at A, extending across the entire width of the folder and corresponding in width with the sample folder, or approximately so, is cut from one end of the roll of goods and this sample strip is placed on the inner side of the sample folder, and one end of the sample strip is fastened to one end of the sample folder, as indicated at 13 in Fig. 3.
The sample folder with the sample strip therein is then doubled and folded and is placed in the roll of goods. When a customer desires a sample of the goods the salesman takes out the sample folder, together with a corresponding section of the sample strip of goods and, after filling in the blanks of the memorandum, gives the memorandum to the customer. Hence, a material economy is effected by the merchant as all the samples are cut from a single narrow strip from the end of the goods and the practice of snipping off a sample from the corner of the goods, as is customarily done and which is extremely wasteful of the goods, is avoided. Moreover, my sample folder, by providing a memorandum section to go with each sample of the goods, apprises the customer of the qualities of the goods and reminds him where the sample was obtained and when, and this memorandum section, in addition to being of great convenience to the customer, is of great advertising value to the merchant.
Having thus described my invention I claim:
1. A sample folder comprising a strip of material, a memoranda strip on one side thereof and attached thereto, said memoranda strip comprising a series of detachable sections and being secured to the first memoranda strip and attached to the sammentioned strip. ple folder. l0 2. A sample folder comprising a strip of In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my material, a memoranda strip on one side signature in the presence of tWo Witnesses.
5 thereof and attached thereto, said memo- WALTER H. BRITSOH.
randa strip comprising a series of detachable Witnesses: sections and being secured to the first named GEORGE E. LEHMAN, strip, and a strip of goods on one side of the ELMER M. BRINGMAN.
