MEDICINE-SPOON. I e a t Application filed November 24, 1909. Serial No. 529,743.
T0 at] ir/wm 1'! may concern:
Be it known that OUHIS'IUPUER Brianna. a citizen of the United States, residing at Steubenville. in the county of Jet'- terson. State of Ohio. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Medicine- Spoons: and I dohereby declare the follow ing to be a full, clear. and exact description ofthe invention, such skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to spoons andmore particularly to the classof satet v. 1nedicine spoons.
The prin'iary. object of the invention is the provision of a spoon of this character in which the administering of' medicine is greatlv facilitated without possibility of spoon and also to vswallow the mouth or teeth so that they will be protected when administering strong and poisonous medicines to the person.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a spoon ofthis character which can be readily handled with ase and enable the proper administration of medicine to a patient that should resist the dose.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a spoon of this character which is simple in construction. and inexpensive in themanufacture. I v
ll'ith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, eoinblnation and arrangement of parts as will he hereinafter more full described in detail illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which disclose the preferred form of embodiment of the in ention to enable those skilled in the art to carry the invention into practice and as pointed out in the claim hereunto appended. p
in the drawings;Figure 1 is a side elevation of a spoon ct'instructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional View through the same; F ig. 3 is a top plan view with the lid Specification of Letters Patent.
as will enable others Paton .or cover in" raised position. Fig. .4 a transverse sectional view on the line -l-l of Fig. 1.
Similar reference tflltltm'ltlfi indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in thedrawin 's.
' Referring to the drawings by numerals 3 designates a handleterminating at its outer end in a depending finger loop (3. and has integral with its opposite end a "laidy wrtion a portion of which is formed with an elongated coneaved bowl 8. connnunicating with a narrow throat portion or uiouth extension '9, formed with vertical side walls 10, providing therebetweeu a discharge passage 11. and to this body 7 is hinged through the medium of a pivot pin 12-. a lid 13. the-same .65 being of a length corresponding to the bowl and mouth portions 8 and St and has formed in its inner face grooves 1'-.l snugly receiving/ therein the outer edges of the-sidewalls,10, oi the body wheng thelid in closed posi tion. This lid 13. has that portion of its innert'ace between the grooves- 14. concaved as at 15, to register with the discharge passage 11, so asto increase the space or bore i thereof to enable thetree' egress ot'thecontents held within the howl S, ot'the body portion of the. spoon. f
' It is clearl; obvious that when the lid or cover 13, closed upon the body 7, of the spo n there is impossibility of the spilling. of the contents of the latter other than its discharge through the'passage 11. in the elongated mouth fi l-when the spoon is placed within the mouthof a patient't'hus eompelding the latter to swallow the entire dose ad- -n1inistered.
hat is claimed A medicine spoon comprising a hollow body having vertical sides disposed in parallel relation and having a eoncaved bottom forming a bowl. a narrow throat having a flat bottom \vall and extending from the forward end of the bowl. said throat having vertical sides formingv a continuation of the bowl, a handle projecting from the opposite end of the bowl and a rectilinear cover hinge-d t6 the fear and bf the bowl-upon; 013- posits sides thereof-and. normally closing the sums zmd throat, said coverhaving spaced parallel grooves extending" longitudinally throughout the' length of Its undersu'rface to inclosqthe upper edges of the sides of the bowl, said cover being als0 provided with a concaved channsl 1n lts'undersurfa'ce befiween the grooves to a line with the thfoai; portion of the bowl. 10
