CENTER-PIECE FOR BUGGY NECK-'YOKES.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY W. STIMsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Snyder, in the county of Scurry and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Center-Pieces for Buggy Neck-Yokes, of which the following is a. specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in centerpieces for buggy neck yokes. Its object is to provide a means for attaching the neck yoke of a bugg to the forward extremity of the tongue that will establish this connection in a stronger and more satisfactory manner than the devices in present use for such a purpose. A further object of the invention 1s to provide a center piece for buggy neck yokes that will be positively prevented from sllpping 0E the end of the tongue, and one that can be produced at a comparatively low cost.
With these and various other objects in view, my invention has relation to certain novel features of the construct-ion, an example of which is described in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Referring now more particularly to the drawing, wherein like letters of reference designate similar parts in all the figures, the letter A denotes a disk or ring, preferably of leather, which is provided with a central aperture B of sufiicient size to receive a vehicle tongue C. The two sides of the disk A are covered by metal plates D, held in place by a plurality of bolts E passing through the plate and through the disk.
The main portions of the plates D are circular in shape, their edges coming flush with that of the disk A, and each 1s provided with a central circular aperture F somewhat horizontal alinement with the edge of the aperture B. A lug L, projecting downwardly from the under side of the tongue, is adapted to be recessed between the bracket K and the adjacent plate D, preventing longitudinal motion of the center piece relative to the tongue. When it is desired to remove the center piece from the tongue, the former will be swung about the axis of the tongue, bringing the bracket K above the tongue, so that the lug L will no longer ofier an obstruction to the removal of the center piece. The apertures F in the plates D are made somewhat larger than that in the disk A in order that said disk may receive all the wear put upon the center piece by friction with the tongue, and when this wear becomes excessive the disk may be readily replaced by a new one by removing the bolts E. It is to be noted that the material used in forming the disk A need not be any high grade of leather, since scraps of any sort may be trimmed ofi to the proper shape and clamped between the plates D to accomplish the desired result. The material of which the parts D and G are*formed will preferably be a sheet of strong resilient steel that will furnish suflicient strength to eliminate any possibility of breakage.
The construction above described has sufficient strength to last as long as the vehicle in conjunction with which the device is used, and will prevent the accidents and runaways which so frequently occur, due to the giving way of the center piece for the neck yoke of a buggy.
WVhat I claim is:
In a center piece for buggy neck-yokes,
disk, and being adapted to engage the lug on the sleeve on the end of the tongue.
