Description

J." WOLPINGER. NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE. APPLICATION FILED FEB. 10, 1912.
Patented May 28, 1912.
COLUMBIA PLANUGRAPH cu.. WASHINGTON, u. c.
I UNITED STATES PATENT onincn.
JOHN WOLFINGER, OF'NEW YORK, N. Y.
NON REFiLLABLE BOTTLE.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN WOLFINGER, a citizen of Austria, and residing in New York, in the borough of Manhattan, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non- Refillable Bottles, of which the following is a specification,
This invention relates to certain improvements in non-refillable bottles of that type which is provided in the neck of the bottle with a ball-valve which closes the bottle when the same is placed in upright position and which permits the pouring out of the contents when the bottle is tilted, said non-refillable bottle comprising a bottleneck provided with a bulge or enlargement, a dome-shaped portion within said bulging bottle-neck closed at the upper end and forming an annular channel with the bottleneck, and having inwardly proj ecting lips in the side-walls of said dome, an interior valve-seat at the lower end of the same, and a ball-valve seated therein and adapted to establish or interrupt communication with the body of the bottle when pouring the con tents or placing the bottle in vertical position.
In the accompanying drawing,-Figure 1 represents a vertical, central section through my improved non-refillable bottle, and Fig. 2 is a horizontal section, on line 2-2, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several figures of the drawings.
Referring to the drawing, the concave bottom 6 of the bottle is provided with a central opening which is closed by a plug 6 of cork, glass or other material, which is tightly closed or sealed after the bottle is filled. The bottleneck d is provided with a bulge or enlargement d within which is arranged a dome-shaped portion 6 which is made integral with the bottle-neck at its lower end and is provided with a throat or restriction e thetapering side-walls of the dome being concentric with the outer bulge of the bottle-neck andforming at the lower end of the dome a seat for a ball-valve f which is permitted to move freely in the dome, but prevented from escapingfrom the same. The dome is provided in its upper side -wall with openings 0 and inwardlybent lips 6, which are formed of the stock of the dome before connecting the Specification of Letters Patent.

same with the-upper end of the body a and before melting the bottleneck thereto, said lips 6 being placed at an inward inclination to the side-wall of the dome so as to permit the egress of the liquid from the bottle when tilting the same over. The inwardly-bent lips 0 form a cage for the ball-valve f by which the passage of the ball-valve beyond the lips is prevented and the return of the valve to its seat facilitated. This construc tion of the lips is indicated in Fig. 2. While the lips permit the pouring of the liquid from the bottle on the opening of the ballvalve, they prevent the return of the liquid to the interior of the dome on the return'of the valve to its seat, the liquid passing around and being retained in the annular space between the wall of the bulging bottleneck and the side-wall of the interior dome. The lips furthermore prevent the insertion of any wire to the interior of the dome so as to tamper with the ball-valve and to hold the same so as to permit the exit of the liquid from the bottle. They also prevent the valve from contact with the top of the dome, thereby eliminating danger of breaking the dome.
The ball-valve is preferably made of glass, and is so arranged as to prevent the breaking of the inwardly projecting lips when pouring out the contents of the bottle.
The bottle-mouth can be closed in any known manner by means of a cork or otherand mainly by the ball-valve which fits tightly on its seat as soon as exterior pressure is exerted thereon. The bottle can only be refilled by being returned to theproducers of the brand of liquors, medicine or other liquid in the bottle, when the bottomplug is removed by melt-ing or otherwise for refilling the bottle.
I claim A non-refillablev bottle comprising a body having a discharge mouth and a valve seat surrounding said mouth, a flaring dome integral' with said body adjacent to said valve seat, said dome having an expanded closed top and being provided in its side wall nea'r' its top with discharge openings and with inwardly inclined guard lips on' the lower side of said openings, 'a ball valve disposed in said'dome and adapted to close against said seat when thebottle is in normal position and to rest against said lips when the larger than the diameter of the discharge 10 bottle is inverted, and a flaring neck surrounding said dome and provided with a contracted nozzle extending above the top thereof, said neck being integrally united with said bodyon a circuit outside the connection therewith of said dome and forming an annular chamber between the neck and dome, the expanded top of the dome being nozzle.
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
