has'for its object tov provide an improved pen holder having a clamping device by means of which the pen may be removed rfrom the holder without touching it with theingers. l

The invention further has for its object to provide an improved pen holder having the pen clamping portion so constructed that ink will not pass from the sleeve on to the handle.

This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings,'wherein:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the end portion of the improved pen holder with the sleeve in a position to release the pen.

This improved penV holder comprises a handle l, which has a reduced end 2 upon which the core 3 is mounted. The core is formed of spring metal and is provided with a longitudinally extending slot 1, which divides the core into the sections 5 and 6.

A xed sleeve 7 is placed upon thecore and has its inner yend secured to the reduced end of the handle 1 by any suitable means, such for instance, as by punching Vportions of the sleeve into the handle. The sleeve is provided with an annular rib 8 which is provided with a beveled face 9. The outer end portion of the stationary sleeve is provided with a cut-out portion 10 and with a sloping flange 11. The sleeve is'placed upon thuspermits the core to expand into the opening- 10 when it is desired to release the pen point.

An outermovable sleeve 12 is placed upon the sleeve 7 and has its outer end of slightly smaller diameter than the inner end and provided'with the opening 13, which is ot' t-he same dimensions as the opening 10. The inner end of the sleeve is provided with a beveled face 14 so that the sleeve will it tightly against the rib 8 and prevent it from passing between the movable sleeve and the` fixed sleeve. When the movable sleeve is placed upon the ixed sleeve, the

outer end of the iixed sleeve is slightly compressed and assists in holding the movable sleeve in place. The flange 11 extends over the outer edge of the sleeve 12 and4 also assists in holding the sleeve 12 in place. .After the pen holder has been assembled the sleeve 12 is turned so that the opening 10 will be covered. The pen point is then placed in the space between the sleeve 12 and the section 6 of the core. The pen is held in place by the expansions of the core. When it is desired to release the pen the sleeve 12 is turned so that the opening 13 will register with the opening 10 and the expansions of the core will cause the pen to spring out.

`When it is desired to clean the pen holder the pen can be removed land the movable sleeve drawn off.. The elasticity of the fixed sleeve is suiicient to cause the flange 11 to hold the movable sleeve in place, but the fact that the flange is sloping causes the movable sleeve to easily ride olf of the fixed sleeve when it is desired to remove it.

What I claim is z- 1. A pen holder comprising a handle, a tubular core mounted on one end of said handle and formed with resilient longitudinal members, a sleeve secured to said handle and surrounding said core and formed with a longitudinal openingin its top extending to its outer end, and a rotatable sleeve mounted on said xedsleeve and having an opening extending to its outer end and coinciding with the opening in the iixed sleeve, the outer end of said fixed sleeve being bent over andyforming a support for the outer end of the rotatable sleeve.

tubular core mounted on one end of said handle and having a longitudinal slot in each side` forming resilient members, a fixed sleeve secured to one end of the handle and extending o-ver said Core and of greater Width at its outer end than the latter, the inner end of said ixed sleeve being formed with an annular rib, and its outer end formed With an outwardly flaring edge, said fixed sleeve having a longitudinal opening on its top extending to its outer end, and a sleeve rotatably mounted on said fixed sleeve and having an opening extending to its outer end and coinciding With the opening in the fixed sleeve, said ro-tatable sleeve bearing at one end against the rib on the iixed sleeve and at its other end againstthe aring 'edge at the other end of Said sleeve.
