' PORTABL E ELECTRIC-LIGHT FIXTURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 28,1912.
Application filed October 13, 1910. Serial No. 586,888.
I To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEROY A. -WILLIAM- soN, of Boston, county of Suffolk, and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Electric-Light Fixtures; and I do hereby declare the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming a part of the same, to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
'My invention relates to an improved form of portable electric lightfixture of the same general character as the fixture forming the subject of my Letters Patent, No. 914,772, datedMarch 9, 1909. i
It is the object of the present invent-ion to provide a form of portable electric light fix- V ture which is extremely simple in construction and cheap to manufacture.
To that end the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed reference being made to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my novel portable fixture, showing the same ready for use. Fig. 2 is a side view showing a lamp in place in the socket. Fig. 3 is a side view of the fixture when not in use.
Referring to the drawings, the device comprises a cylindrical casing having a fiat top portion A with a seml-circular pocket 'B- formed on the underside thereof. The pocket B is provided with a semi-circular cover C which is secured thereto by means spring catch 6 for holding said cover in closed position, all as shown in Fig. 3. The top portion A is provided upon the exterior with an electric attaching plug 0 which may be secured to or formed integral with'said top portion. Connected to the plug 0 is one end of a quantity of electric light cord (Z, the other end of said cord being connected to an electric light socket e, as shown in Fig. 1.
Formed partly in the pocket B and partly in the cover C is a diamond shaped recess 7,
and clamp the cord when the device is in use, as shown in Fig. 2. The operation of the device is as follows:
When not in use all of the cord 01 and the which has been removed from said station ary fixture is placed in the socket e which has been taken out of the'pocket B by simply opening the 'c over C. As much of the cord 05 as is required to take the lamp to the part of the room desired is then removed from the pocket B and the cover C closed. As the cover 0 is closed, the edges of the diamond shaped slot 7 engage and grip the cord 65, and when the cover is clamped in closed position said cord will continue to be firmly clamped so that no more cord can be taken from the pocket B until the cover O is again opened. This clamping effect on the cord 03 is sufficient to hold the socket andlamp in any. desired suspended posit-ion, as shown in Fig. 2.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
the edges of which are adapted to engage 1. In a device of the character described,
the combination, with a casing comprising a pocket port-ion and a cover for said pocket portion, of an electric attaching plug on the exterior of said casing, an electric light socket and a quantity of electric light cord Within said casing having one end secured to said plug and the other end connected to said socket.
'2. In a device of the character described, the combination, with a casing comprising a pocket portion and a cover'therefor, of an electric attaching plug on the exterior of said casing, aquantity of electric light cord within said casing having one end attached to said plug and the other end attached toan electric light socket, and means formed in the Wall of the casing for holding the light socket and a portion of the cord suspended upon the exterior of said casing.
3. In a device of the character described, the combination, With a casing comprising a pocket portion and a hinged cover therefor, of a diamond shaped recess formed partly in said pocket portion and partly in said cover, an electric attaching plug on the exterior of 10 said casing, an electric light socket and a quantity of electric light cord having one end secured to said plug and the other end attached to said socket, the pocket portion of the casing being adapted to house said cord and socket.
