LEROY A. WILLIAMSON, oEBosToiv, MASSACHUSETTS.
T0 all whom t may concern:
` Be it known that LVLERQY A. l/ViLLIAM- SON, of Boston, countyof Suifollnand State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new y 5 and useful Improvements in Portable.` ElectriceLight Fixtures; `and Ifdo hereby vdeclare ythe following specification, taken in connection with the accompanyingudrawings, forming a part of the same, to be ay full, clear, andv exact description thereof.
My invention relates toan improved form ofy portable electric light fixture of the 'same general character as the fixture forming the subject of my Letters Patent, No. 914,772, dated March 9, 1909.
The objects of the invention are to provide novel means for lockinglthe hub against revolution; to provide a suit-able standard for the casing; to provide means for suspendingV the casing; to provide meansfor holding the plug rigidly within the casing when not in use; and toprovide means for preventing the lamp cord from bending at the point where it is connected to the hub.
To these ends the invention consists in ythe novel construction, arrangement and combination of arts hereinaftery described and claimed, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, in ,which- Figure 1 is a top plan view of my novel fixture, showing a portion of the casing broken away and the cord `hung over a hook. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the top of the casing removed. Fig. 3 is a plan view of they bottom side of the casing. Fig. v4is a vertical section through the centerof thev casing. Fig. 5 is a fragmentary section on; line 5-5, Fig. 3. Figsg and V7 are details.v
Referring to the drawings, A represents the casing which .is madel in two sections al and a fastened together'by screws 0 passing through ears c and c? formed on the sections a and 65 respectively, and also by interlocking ribs d and ai', as shown in Fig. 4. vMolded in the top of section a .of the casing, which is preferably made of hard rubber or composition, is a perforated metal disk e for strengthening said casing and preventing it from warping. The section a is provided with an annular standard or support b and a series of hinged legs or supports b', as shown in Figs. 3 and 4.
The sections a and a are provided with central openings f and f in which is journaled a hub g provided with two annular f ianges g2. In one end of the hub g is Specification ofLetters Patent.
Application led October 13, 1910. Serial No. 586,886.
y PORTABLE ELECTRIC-LIGHT FIXTURE.

is connected one end of a quantity of lamp cord i wound upon said hub and having its other end connected to an attaching plug h. A plate 7' is secured on the other end of the hub g by means of screws g', said plate y' being provided with a hinged arm 7c carrying a knob k which is arranged to engage an opening Z when in'closed position and is locked therein by means'fof the spring Z formed on the plate j,.asshown in Fig. 5.
mounted an electric light socket h to which v.
The plate y' is provided with a series of i beveled recesses ja in the. periphery thereof which are adapted to be engaged by a sliding detent i2 to lock the hub g against rotation in one direction.V It will be seen that by f f area-son of the beveled edge of the recesses ja the rotation of the hub in the opposite direction will automatica ly disengage `the detent i7'2 from said recesses.
The casing A is provided with a projecti by a stop n. The wall ofthe opening m isy furnished with recesses p so that the plug may be easily grasped between the thumb i and nger when it is desired to remove the plug from the casing. The casing A is also preferably provided with a st-rap 1' forsuspending said casing, as shown in Fig. 3. Said strap 1 isfpassed through an eye sy clamped between the sections a and a of the casing and the endsof said strap are adapted to be fastened together by means of a buckle 1". Said strap rwhen unbuckled -may be prevented from pulling out. of the eye s by they band r2. It will be seen that when it is desired to suspend the casing A the strap' r may be looped over a hook or similar object as shown in Figzf, and that when the device is not in use, the free looped end of said strap may be placed upon a hook s', as shown in Figs. 1 and 4. The device may also be suspended in the manner shown in Fig. 1 by locking the hub g against revolution and passing the lamp-cord over a hook t which may be upon the wall of a room or upon any varticle of furniture therein.
In order to protect the cord z' where it Vengages the hook t from wear, a sleeve z" isy connected With the socket 7L, the covering of said lamp-cord is removed and Wound around the socket in the form of a loop u to prevent the lamp-cord from bending and breaking at the point Where it is connected t0 said socket.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. In a device of the character described,
the combination, With a suitable casin, oi:l a hub mounted to revolve therein, an electric light socket in one end of said hub, a plate secured to the opposite end of said hub and provided with a recess in its periphery, a detent `mounted to slide in said casing and adapted to engage and disengage said recess, a quantity of lamp cord Wound upon said hub and connected at one end to said light socket, and an attaching plug connected to the other end of said cord.
2. In a device of the character described, the combination, With a suitable casing, of a hub mounted to revolve therein, an electric light socket in one end o said hub, a plate secured to the opposite end of said hub` and provided With a series of tapered recesses in its periphery, a detent mounted to slide in said casing and adapted to engage and disengage said recesses, a quantity of lamp cord Wound upon said hub and connected at one end to said light socket, and an attaching plug connected to the other end of said cord.
3.
