FAN FOR SEWING-MACHINES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 21, 1912.
Application filed January 5, 1912. Serial No. 669,599.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT WV. OwNnY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Denison, in the county of Grayson and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Fan for Sewing-Machines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a new and useful fan for sewing machines.
The principal object of the invention is the provision of a fan, adapted to be applied to a rotary member, such as a pulley or fly wheel, in order to generate an air draft during the operation of the sewing machine.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved simple and ellieient device of this nature comprising an annular band, to which the blades are clamped detachably.
A further object is to produce such clamping means, as to permit the blades to be adjusted, whereby the number of blades may be increased or decreased.
The invention comprises further features in combination of parts, as will be hereinafter set forth shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings :Figure 1 is an elevation showing the fan as applied to a sewing machine, showing the same constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is an end elcvationl Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view of one of the blades of the fan, showing the manner of attaching the same to the annular band.
Referring to the drawings 1 designates the fly wheel of the sewing machine head 2, While 3 denotes an annular band. This band is provided with a plurality of arms 4: riveted in place as shown at 5. The arms are constructed of spring sheet metal and provided with curved portions 6, which conform to and fit the annular outside or in side circumference of the fly wheel. The arms fit the fly wheel close enough, and. are sufficiently rigid, to support the band firmly in position. The blades 7 are constructed of single pieces of sheet metal, and are arranged at angles to the band, so as to project the air draft toward the operator. The flanges 8 of the blades are provided for the purpose of assisting in generating the air drafts, and by changing the angles of the flanges, the air draft may be increased or decreased. Projecting from the body of each blade is a lateral extension plate 9, which engage the outer circumference of the outer band. These plates 9 are formed with inturned cars 11, to lap over the annular band, as shown clearly in Fig. 3, so as to secure the blades adjustably and detachably to the band.
From the foregoing it will be noted that there has been produced a novel, simple and efficient sewing machine fan, by which the air draft may be projected toward the operator, and one which has not only been found practical, but one by which the air draftmay be increased or decreased.
The invention having been set forth, what is claimed as new and useful is 2- 1. In combination, an annular band having arms adapting for connecting the band to a fly wheel of a sewing machine, blades arranged about the band and disposed at angles thereto, the blades having lateral extension plates provided with inturned ears to lap over the annular band.
2. In combination, an annular band having arms adapted for connecting the band to a fly wheel of a sewing machine, blades arranged about the band and disposed at angles thereto, the blades having lateral extension plates provided with inturned ears to lap over the annular band, the plates and ears constituting means whereby the blades may be adjusted on the band, the blades having angularly arranged flanges adapted to be bent at various angles thus increasing or decreasing the air drafts.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALBERT W. OVVNBY.
Witnesses P. V. Bnornns, G. KINNEDGE.
