Be itLknown that I, HENRY L. HASKELL, a citizen ofthe United} States, residing atv thecity of -Ludington,.county of Mason, State of Michigan, have. invented certain new and useful Improvements in Figure Toys, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in figure toys. v

The main objects of this invention are to providean improved figure toy which is at- 't-ractive in appearance. and quite strong and durable, and at the same time one which is very economical to produce.

Further objects-and objects relating to structural details will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.

The structure described constitutes one effective embodiment of my invention. Other embodimentswould be readily devised by those skilled in the art. Y

The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.

A structure constitutinganefiective and preferred embodiment of the features of my lnvention is clearly illustrated'in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which:

Fig.4 is a detail side elevation of a piece of stock from which my improved toy is preferably made.

In the drawings, similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.

Referring to the drawings, the figureillustrated represents a dromedary, and comprises a body portion 1 and legs 2. The toy is cut from a piece of four-ply stock, in which the inner plies 3 are disposed so that the grain of the wood is vertical of the toy, or longitudinal of the legs, while the outer plies 4 are. disposed so that the grain is horizontal or transverse of the legs, as is clearly illustrated in Fig. 3. ' I prefer to use, and have described wood stock or material for the manufacture of the toys, but desire to state that paper stock may be utilized, either in whole or in part: that is, part of the plies might be paper and part wood, or all pa er stock disposed and treated to produce is e warping or curved effect.

It will be understood that the figure shown in the accompanying drawing is illustrative merely, and that birds or other fig ures, as well as animals, can be readily produced.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. A figure toy comprising body and leg portions, formed inte ally of four-ply wood stock, the grain o the two inner plies being vertically disposed and the grain of the two outer plies being horizontally. disposed, the outer plies belng' glued to their adjacent inner plies throughout, the inner plies being glued to each other only in the upper portion of said body, for the purpose specified.

2. A figure toy comprising body and leg portions, formed integrally of four-ply wood stock, the grain of the two inner plies being verticallydisposed and the grain of the two outer plies being horizontally dis- 105 posed, the outer plies being glued to their I adjacent inner plies throughout, the inner surfaces of the inner plies bein gluedto each other only in part, where y the leg portions are curved outwardly, for the pur- 113 pose specified.

3. A figure comprising a body and ap 7 pendicular members, formed integrally of stock havingva plurality of plies, the grain of the-inner plies being disposed longitudinally of the appendicular members, and the grain of the outer plies being disposed transversely thereof, the inner surfaces of the inner plies being united in the body portion onlyand the outer pliesbeing united to the inner plies throughout, for the purpose specified.

4. A figure comprising body and appen- 'dicular members formed integrally. of stock havinga plurality of plies, the grain of the inner plies being disposed l'on gitudinally of the appendicular members, the grain of the outer plies being disposed transversely thereof, the inner surfaces of vthe central plies being united in part only, whereby the appendioular members are spread apart, for the purpose specified.

5. A figurev comprisin a body and leg portions formed integrally of four ply material, the outer lies being secured to their adjacent inner p ies throughout so that the leg portions are two ply, the inner surfaces of the inner plies being secured to each other in part only, the outer plies and their adj acent inner plies being arranged to coact to curve the leg portions outwardly for the purpose specified.
