To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, MILTON A. FESLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and Stateof California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Centrifugal Gil-Burners, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in centrifugal oil burners, the object of thev invention being to provide an oil yburner of this character which shall be exceedingly eiicient and' economical.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 isa sectional view-of a furnace equipped with my improved oil burner; Fig. 2 is a vertical section, parts being shown in side elevation, of the oil burner proper, Fig. 3 is a partial horizontal section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawing, 1 indicates a furnace supported on a suitable base 2, upon which rests a standard 3, fromwhich prolV j ects laterally upper and lowerbearings 4,' 5. Supported upon said bearings are bushings 6, in which rotates a vertical shaft 7 carrying near its lower end a pinion 8, driven by'a gear wheel 9, on a shaft 10, rotating by-any suitable meansin a horizontal bushing 11, throughl said standard 3. The gears 8 and 9 and the bearings 4 and 5 are surrounded by a casing 132. Upon the reduced lthreaded end of said sha-ft 7 is screwed a spreader 12, having an upper plate 13, a lower plate 14, and an intermedi# ate plate 15. All of said plates are spaced fromleach other, and are joined by radial vertical webs 16, of which there may be any suitable number. The upper plate 13 is convex on its ,upper surface, and the lower concaved surface is formed, as at 17, so as to connect with said shaft without any sharp angles or corners. The lower /plate 14 is convex on its lower surface, and is extended centrally downwardin the form of a verti-l cal tube 18. The intermediate plate 15 is plane, except in the center, where it is extended ldownward in a tubular' form as shown at 19, the lower edge thereof being extended inwardly and then upwardly to form an .annular channel 20. The upper and lower plates 13, 14, approachv at their peripheries in close proximity to the pe- 'riphery of the intermediate plate.` There are thus formed between said tubular down- Ward extensions and shaft air conduits 22,
23. An -oil supply pipe, 24,-controlled by a valve 25, extends upwardly parallel with the shaft, and is bent over to discharge into the annular channel 20. Surrounding the outer tubular extension is an' upper partition 26 concave on its upper side, and surrounding the shaft isa lower similarly concave part-i-` tlon 27 extending substantially at a uniform distance from the upper partition. The air passing into said air conduits 22, 23, is drawn from the space 28 between said partitions, and in turn. is supplied' to said space 28 by means of pipes 29 leading from the interior of a sleeve 30 surrounding the flue'31 from the furnace and supplied with air through suitable openings 32, one of which is shown in dotted linesvin Fig. l.
The operation of the apparatus is as follows z-The shaft being maintained in rotation at high speed, the oil, supplied by the pipe 24 to the channel 20, flows, by the centrifugal force due to the high speed of the burner, upward over the intermediate plate 15 and out between said plate 15 and plate 13, its motion being directed outward by means of the webs 16. The air -supplied to the interior of the sleeve 30 and around the flue 31 becomes highly heated, and flows by the pipes 29 to the space 28 between the upper and lower partitions 26, 27, and is thus supplied to the annular conduits 22, 23. It then iiows out over the edges of said plateand mixes with the oil, which moreover is atomized by the centrifugal force resulting from-the high speed of the rotating parts.
I claim 1. The combination of a vertical shaft, upper, lower and intermediate plates carried by said shaft, the peripheries of said plates approaching into close proximity to each other, centrally disposed conduits leading respectively into the spaces between the upper-and intermediate plates and the in` termediate and lower plates, an oil pipe ex- .tending upward and discharging into one of said conduits, and means fr-rotating said shaft, substantially as described.

The combination of a vertical shaft, upper, lower-and intermediate plates carried by said shaft, radial vertical webs between said plates, the peripheries of said plates approaching into close proximity to each other, centrally disposed conduits lead'- ing respectively into the spaces between the upper and intermediate plates and the inter- I mediate and lower plates, an oil pipe extending upward and discharging into one of sald conduits, and means for rotating sald shaft, substantially as described.
5 3. The combination of a vertical shaft,
upper, lower and intermediate plates carried by said shaft, the peripheries of said plates approaching into close proximity to each other, the intermediate and the lower plates having depending tubular extensions, and one of said extensions being formed with an annular channel to receive a supply of oil,
' an oil pipe extending upward and discharging into said channel, and means for rotating said shaft, substantially as described.
5.'The combination with a furnace, of a vertical shaft, upper, lower and intermediate plates carried by said shaft, the peripheries of said plates approaching into close proximity to each other, Athe intermediate and the lower' plates having depending tubular extensions to form an annular airsupply conduit, and one of, said extensions being formed with an annular channel to receive a supply of oil, an oil pipe extending upward and discharging intoI said channel, partitions beneath said burner, the space between the'partitions opening into said air supply conduit, a pipe for conducting the air to said space, and'means whereby the heat of the products of combustion of the' furnace heats said air, substantiallyl as described.

The combination of a vertical shaft, a plate carried by said shaft, upper and lower plates, respectively above and below said first-named plate, the peripheries `of all of said plates approaching into close proximity to each other, centrally disposed conduits leading respectively into the spaces between the upper and intermediate plates, and the intermediate and lower plates, an oil pipe extending upwardly and discharging into one of said conduits, and means for rotating the shaft.
8. The combination of a vertical shaft, a plate carried by said shaft, upper and lower plates, respectively above and lbelow said first-named plate, radial vertical webs secured to said first-named plate, the peripheries -of said plates approaching into close proximity to each other, cent-rally disposed conduits leading respectively into the spaces between the upper and intermediate plates, and the intermediate and lower plates, an oil pipe extending upward and discharging -into one of said conduits, and means for rotating said shaft.
9. The combination of a vertical shaft, a plate carried by said shaft, upper and lower plates respectively above and below said first-named plate, the peripheries of all of said plates extending into close proximity to each other, an oil pipe extending upwardly between said shaft and an inner edge of one of said lates, and discharging upon an inner margin of said plate, and means for rotating said shaft.
