To all 'wh-omc't may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES D. BARR,
a citizen of the United States, residing at 2620 Taylor street, Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Egg-Trays, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to egg trays which are used in connection with incubators and the principal object of the same is to provide the egg tray with a number of rollers upon which the eggs rest and to provide means for turning the rollers so that the eggs can be turned when necessary.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved type of strip connecting the outer ends of the roller axles and to provide a device which not only holds the strip upon the outer ends of the rollers, but which also may be used for turning the rollers.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved tray. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the tray. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the tray. Fig. 4 is a fragmentary plan view of the tray. Fig. 5 is a section through the operating knob. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the knob.
Referring to the accompanying drawings by numerals it will be seen that the improved tray comprises a frame 1 having inwardly rolled upper and lower edges 2 and 3. The sides of the frame are provided with alined openings in which a number of rollers 4 are rotatably mounted; fourteen rollers being shown in the illustrated form.
It is, of course, obvious that any niunber of rollers may be used according to the size of the tray. These rollers are each provided with an axle 5 which extends through the roller and has one end rotatably mounted in the opening formed in one side of the frame. The other end of the axle extends beyond the side of the tray and is bent parallel with the side of the tray as indicated by the numeral 6 and then away from the tray as indicated by the numeral 7 The portion 7 of one of the axles is bent back upon itself parallel with the portion 6 as indicated by the numeral 8.
A strip 9 having rolled edges 10 and 11 is provided with a number of openings corresponding to the number of rollers so that the strip can be placed upon the protruding ends of the axles and be pivotally mounted upon the outwardly extending portions 7 of the axle.
A knob 12 is provided with a diametrically extending slot 13 formed from its inner face and terminating in an opening 14 so that the knob can be placed upon the protruding end of the axles having portion 8, by placing the portion 8 in the slot and forcing it through the opening 14. By this means the knob will be securely held in place and the strip 9 will also be prevented from coming off of the ends of the axles. It should be noted, however, that when the knob is turned the strip is free to move and thus transmit motion to the remaining rollers. hen it is desired to dismantle this tray the knob can be easily removed and the strip taken olf. The axles can then be withdrawn and the rollers will be free from the frame. The frame can then be cleaned and disinfected and reassembled.
What I claim is A tray of the character described comprising a frame, a plurality of rollers mounted in said frame, axles for said rollers, each having one end portion bent to form a crank, a bar mounted upon the crank ends of said axles, the outer end of one of said axles being bent parallel to said bar, and a button mounted upon the outer end of said last mentioned axle and provided with a diametrically disposed groove terminating in an opening extending through said button through which the end of said last mentioned axle passes.
