To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that LRUBBIN J. WooDARn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Danville, in the county of Vermilion and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Dinner-Pails, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to dinner pails, the object of the invention being to provide an improved attachment therefor whereby the drinking water can be readily drawn from the water compartment of the pail without necessitating the removal of the cover of the pail.

In the drawing, forming a portion of this specification and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views :Figure 1 is a side view of the pail. Fig. 2 is a section therethrough on line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the draw-oft tube. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the vent tube.

The pail 1 includes a lower section 1 and an upper sect-ion 2, the latter being designed so as to be partly fitted into the former as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing. The section 2 is provided with a continuous stop bead 3 which is adapted to rest upon the reinforcing bead 4: at the upper end of the bottom section 1 so as to limit the adjustment of the section 2 in the section 1 as will be understood. This construction is also such that the bottom of the upper section can be spaced from the bottom of the lower section to form an intervening chamber A for water.

The draw-ofl' tube 6 is preferably formed from asingle piece of sheet material stamped to provide a vertical substantially semicylindrical portion 7 whose walls are arranged in opposing relation to the walls of the lower section of the pail, being arranged exteriorly of the pail and provided with an attaching flange 8 which may be soldered or otherwise suitably secured to the walls of the section I of the pail. The flange or member 8 is of a length slightly greater than the semi-cylindrical portion 7 and of a length equal to the distance between the reinforcing bead 4.- and the upper edge of the bottom of the lower receptacle respectively. From this construction it will be readily understood that the portion of the member 8 which extends beyond the upper and lower ends of the semi-cylindrical portion 7 is adapted to be snugly fitted between the bead 4 and the upper edge of the bottom of the lower receptacle, whereby the tube 6 is securely retained in position upon the said section, and the member 8 protected from accident-a1 displacement from the receptacle. Adjacent to the bottom, the section 1 is provided with an opening 9 which opens directly into the lower end of the portion 7 of the draw-off member, the opposite end of the member being arranged in open communication with a tube or mouth piece 10.

A vent tube 11 is secured to the lower section 1 of the pail, and as shown, this tube is constructed with a vertical leg 12 and an outwardly and downwardly curved branch portion 13, the latter being arranged in open communication with the outside air. The lower end of the vertical leg 12 of the tube carries a tongue 14.- which extends through the opening 15 in the lower section 1 and secured to such section by solder or other suitable fastening means, the said tongue being adapted to lessen the strain on the section at the side thereof. The top section of the pail is provided with a removable cover 16.

From the construction described it will be seen that water may be placed in the chamber A and when the same is desired for use the mouth piece 10 is placed in the mouth of the user and through suction the water may be drawn from the chamber as is obvious, it being understood that the vent tube hereinbefore described allows the air to enter the chamber to replace the liquid as it is drawn off.

I claim A pail comprising a member including upper and lower sections, said lower section being formed to provide a reinforcing bead, a cover fitting the upper section, the bottoms of the sections being spaced from each other to form an intervening liquid chamber, the bottom of the lower section being formed with an angular flange surrounding the said section, a draw-ofl' tube embodying a member stamped from a single piece of material and formed to provide a vertical substantially semi-cylindrical portion arranged in opposing relation to the wall of the lower section, and a substantially rectangular attaching flange secured to the said section, the said tube having one of its ends opening directly into the chamber and having its opposite end provided with a mouth and the said flange protected from accidenpiece, the said flange having a portion theret-al displacement therefrom. 1 of extending beyond the upper and lower In testimony whereof I aflix my signature ends of the semi-cylindrical portion adaptin presence of two witnesses.
