FLOAT FOR BATHERS.

To all 'whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, VILLIAM O. KNOPH, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Orleans, in the parish of Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Floats for Bathers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in floats for the use of bathers to enable them to ride the waves in different positions, and is especially useful for beginners in learning to swim.

The object of the invention is to provide a practical float of simple construction, capable of supporting a person in water and having means for ready attachment to the bather.

Another, object of the invention is to provide means for connecting together the hollow vessels comprising the float for the purpose of carrying same.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain combinations and arrangements of the p-arts hereinafter described, and the novel features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

The preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which like characters of reference indicate corrresponding parts.

Figure l is a view of a float embodying my invent-ion supporting a bather; Fig. 2 is an elevat-ion of the ioat, one of the hollow vessels being shown in section; and, Fig. 3 is a view in elevation showing the hollow vessels connected together for the purpose of carrying the same.

The float consists of aI pair of hollow air tight vessels l and 2 preferably constructed of suitable light sheet metal and having circular ends 3, from which extend flared sides 4 and 5 meeting in a central ridge as at 6 having a diameter greater than the ends of the vessels. One of the ends 3 of each vessel is provided with a looped handle 7 of tape or the like, for the attachment of a Specification of Letters Patent.

The strap 8 passes through the handle 7 and is provided with a buckle 9 in order that the ends of the strap may be secured together and also allow for adjustment of its length to suit the. requirements of the bather. The bather may sit or otherwise support himself on the stra-p. One of the vessels, for instance 9 has projecting from its periphery near the end to which is fastened the handle 7 a plurality of eye members l0, and the other vessel l is provided, at the opposite end to which the handle is attached, with a corresponding number of similarly arranged hooks 1l for engaging said eye members to couple the vessels together for convenience in carrying the float to and from the bathing beach.

From the above description it is thought the advantages of the invention will be understood without further explanation, and it is to be understood that slight changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted towithin the scope of the claims.

Having fully described my invention what I claim is l. 'In a float, the combination of a pair of hollow vessels, means connect-ing the vessels together for supporting a bather, and means for connecting one vessel below the other locking the vessels together for the purpose of carrying same, substantially as described.

2. In a float, the combination of a pair of hollow vessels, a strap connecting the vessels together, one of t-he vessels being provided with a plurality of eye members, and the other vessel having a corresponding number of hooks for engaging said eye members whereby the vessels may be coupled together for the purpose of carrying same, substantially as described.

3. In a float, the combination of a pair of hollow vessels, each vessel having circular ends and flared sides meeting in a ridge having a greater diameter than said vessels, each vessel having a handle fixed to one end, a st-rap attached to the handles for connecting the vessels together and securing same to a bather, eye members projecting from the periphery of one of the vessels near the opposite end to which said handle is fXed, In testimony whereof, I affix my signature, arlld hcpks projecting from the periphery of in presence of two witnesses.
