Description

Letters Patent No. 102,636, dated lila-y 3, 1870.
*MF- IMPRO'TEMENT IN WATER-COCK' FILTEIEL Q-.b-O-T- To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, NAHL'M C. WlLnnu, ol' the city and county ot' Hartford, and State of Connecticut, have invented certa-in new andv useful Improvements in Filter for Water-Cocks; and to'enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, I will proceed to describe by referring to the drawings', in which the same letters indicate like parts.
The nature of this invention consists in arranging or combining a iilter wit-l1 a nozzle and compound rubber and metal sleeve, the object of' which is to produce a filter cheap and rapid ot' construction, convenient and desirable for use.
In the accompanying drawings- Figure l is a side sectional view.
a is a nletallic nozzle.
'b's a metallic sleeve, connected tothe nozzle by screw-tln'eads in the common way of' forming connections.
c is an Italia-rubber sleeve, fitted closely into thc metallic sleeve b. f
The chamber or lower end of the nozzle is provided with a lip, d, thc object of which is to cause the water to flow in a smooth stream therefrom.
The chamber of this nozzle is provided with a shoulder, e, upon which is placed a wire-gauze or sieve, jf,- and between this sieve f and the lower end g of' the sleeve bis placed a sponge, h, or other fibrous material, for collecting the impurities in the water.
By this screw connection the nozzle can be at any By means of' this compound sleeve, the connection can be more cheaply and rapidly manufactured, and is more reliable l'or use when made.
This improvement can be easily and quickly attached to a water-cock having either screw-end nozzle. or a smooth-end nozzle. "lhus a good, cfi1c1ent,.'and
durable tilter-nozzle can be furnished greatly below the cost of those now in use.
I believe ll have -t-hus shown the nature, construction, and advantage ofv thisyiuventiolnnso as toenable others skilled in the art to Ina-ke. and use the same therefrom. v
What I claim, therefore, and desire to secureby Letters Patent, is- Y As an improved article of manufacture, a filter for water-cocks, having a nozzle, a, with lip (l, sleeve b, packing c, connected to the nozzle by a screw connection, gauze f, upon the shoulder e, and sponge/h, all combined and arranged as and for the purpose set tirth.
