Application filed May 5 1911. Serial No 625,196.
in use and to permit of detachment of the telephone; from the support and its being handled in the ordinary manner when in use.
The above and other objects will appeal and be-better understood from the following' description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device in operative position; -Fig. 2 is a detail .perspective view of the keeper; Fig. 3 is a sectional detail of the lower portion of the device; Fig. 4; is a bottom plan of the stand; Fig.5 is a view similar to F ig. 3 but taken to a plane at right'angles to the plane of Fig. 3.
-The bracket arm '5 is provided with a pintle 6 which is rotatably mounted in a socket 7 arranged on a plate 8. The plate 8 -is adapted to be secured in any suitable manner such as by screws 9 to any convenient portion of a desk, table, wall or other places which is usually employed in connection with supporting a telephone. The
. lower end portion 10 of the bracket arm 5 curves upwardly and is provided with a depending hook 11 to engage the hangerof the telephone directory. V v
A standv 11 conforms approximately to the contour and area of the stand of the ordinary telephone a and is provided with an upwardly extending ledge or stop 12 which serves to limit the movement of the stand of the telephone a in one direction. The stop I 12 extends partly around the stand 11 so that the front portion thereof is unobstructed- .whereby the stand of the telephone may be placed thereon and slid thereover until it engages with the stop 12. A yoke 13 depends from the stand 11 and is arranged on opposite sides of the lower end portion 10, -the upper surface of the lower end having a portion-thereof beveled as at 14, so that when the stand is secured to the lower end portion such as by the bolt 15 which passes through alining openings in the arms of the yoke and ,end portions 11, the stand may be.
portions of said arms being out-turned as shown at 22.
\Vhen it is desired to place the telephone on the device the base of the telephone is placed on the stand 11 and slid thereover as before described. This sliding of the base upon the stand moves the reduced upper portion or that located below the transmitter ot' the telephone into the space between the outt-urned portion 22. The aforesaid sliding movement of the base upon the stand will tilt the latter after the upper portion of the telephone engages with the keeper and the slidmg movement continues; This will be apparent by referring to the drawings wherein it will be seen that the upper portion ofthe ledge or stop 12 overhangs the stand 11 so that after the greater portion of the base has moved over the stand and the upper end portion of the telephone engages with the keeper the base-of the telephone will rise upon further sliding movement thus engaging the'ledge or stop 12 and tilting the stand.
After the stop is fully engaged by the base ot' the telephone aslight forward shove of the upper portion thereof will move the said upper portion into the space between the.
bowed portions 20 and 21 of the keeper whereby the reduced upper end portion by virtue of its beingless than the diameter of the space between the bowed portions 20 and 21. will permit of the stand assuming its original horizontal position.
receiver hook 23 ,is pivotedto the lower face of the stand 11 and is adapted to be housed below the stand or swing outwardly so that its engaging end will extend beyond the stand. The hook 23 provides a means for hanging the receiver thereon when the user is'required to leave oft conversing temporarily.
'The form of the device shown and described is the-best known to me at the-present. It is to be'understood however, that I am not to be limited to the use of the structure described since many obvious changes may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I What is claimed as new is: I A
1. In a portable telephone bracket, in eon1- bination, '-a' Vertically disposed curved sup 3 port, a'verticallyimovable stand pivoted'to 10 one end of the support, a keeper at the other end ofthe support, the stand being adapted the. telephone.
2. A portable telephone bracket comprising a horizontally swinging support, a vera resilient keeper connected to the support and spaced'from the stand.
3. In a portable telephone bracket, the
combination with a support; of a vertically rocking stand arranged thereon, a keeper associated with the support and adapted to engage the upper end of a telephone-When the base of the same is moved onto the stand.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses. 1
