To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL STEINBERG, a citizen'of the United States, residing at Laportc, in the county of Laporte and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and use ful Improvements in Watch-Bows; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention,

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in watch bows and more particularly to means for securing the same in position.
An object of the invention is to provide means whereby the bow may be securely fastened to the stemof the casing, and another object is to provide means whereby the bow may be securely held in position without interfering with the winding or setting mechanism of the watch.
Other objects and advantages will be hereinat'ter more fully made apparent in the specification and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings which form part of this application, Figure 1 is an enlargedelevational view of the bow secured in position, said view being partly in section, while, Fig. 2 is a side view at right angles to Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings in which'similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 1 represents the stem of the casing, with the winding stem'2 projecting from the upper end thereof, which is preferably thickened or enlarged at'opposite sides, as shown at 3, to receive the opposite ends or ears 4 of the how 5, as willbe more fully described.
The bow 5 may be of any form desired and is provided with the hollow ears 4-, previously mentioned, at its opposite ends, said ears being in alinement with one another and adapted for engagement against the opposite thickened portions 8 of the stem 1. The inner ends of the ears 4 are slightly reduced, as shown at 6, and adapted for engagement within the opening 7 provided therefor in the thickened portions 3 of the stem 1.
Extending inwardly from the center of each opening 7 is a threaded passage 8 to accommodate the reduced threaded end 9 of Specification of Letters Patent. Patented May 14,, 1912, Application filed December 27, 1911. Serial llo. 668,043.

When the screw 10 is in position, with its threaded portion 9 engaged within the threaded passage 8, the slotted or outer end of said screw is some distance inwardly of the outer end of the ear 4 and the screw 10 is prevented from working out of the ear 4 by means of a flat screw or plug 11 engaged within the outer internally threaded end 12 of said ear. The threads upon the flat screw or plug 11 and those within the outer end 12 of the ear 4 are preferably left-hand threads, while those upon the reduced threaded end 9 of the screw 10 and within the passage 8, are right 'hand threads. Thus it will be seen that should the screw 10 work loose the outward movement of the same would tend to tighten the plug 9 by working against the inner face of the latter, rather than loosen the same.
The passage 8 within the thickened portion 3 of thestem l and the threaded end 9 of the screw 10, are of such length as to extend only a portion of the way through said thickened portion and therefore cannot interfere with the winding or setting of the watch.
This form of how and securing means may be employed upon the type of watch stems now in use and will eliminate all danger of the bow becoming detached from the,
stem and allowing the watch to dropand probably cause serious damage to the works.
The screws 10 and 11 may be formed oi any suitable material and the plug 11 is preferably flush with the outer endof the ear 4 when said plug is iii-position to close the outer end of-said ear and prevent the screw 10 from working out of said car. What I claim is: The combination with a watch casing stein having recesses, and threaded passages extending inwardly from said recesses; of a bow having ears with reduced ends for engagement within the recesses, securing screws within the ears and having reduced threaded ends for engagement within the threaded passages, and screw plugs having 4 threads directed oppositely to the threads on name to this specification in the presence of the-reduced ends of the securing screws and two subscribing Witnesses.
