ANTI-RAIL-CREEPER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, OLAF K. RAMSTEAD, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Quentin, in the count-y of Marin and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Anti-Rail-Creepers, of which the following is a specification, ref- @rence being had therein to` the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to devices which are used for preventing a rail from creeping and the principal object of the same is t0 provide a device which may be connected with the rail between the ties and which is so yconstructed that it may be used to prevent the rail from creeping in the direction of either end.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein z- Eigure 1 is a view partially in cross section and partly in elevation of the rail and the anti-creeping means. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the improved anti-Creeper. Fig. 8 is a view similar to Fig. 2 with the rail lock turned in the opposite direction of that shown in Fig. 2. Fig. l is a view in side elevation of the rail lock. Fig. 5 is a view in front elevation of the rail lock. Fig.

The device is applied to the base of the rail 1, and comprises a body portion (2) having a tapered lower portion which is provided with a bifurcation (4) forming the tongues (5). One side of the body portion (2) is provided with a tongue (6) which is bent back upon the body portion to form an overhanging tongue, and the opposite end (7) of the body portion is provided with a vertical opening. The end of the body portion through which the opening is formed is thickened and is provided with a curved Specification of Letters Patent.

The rail lock is mounted in the vert-ical opening and comprises a shank (8) which passes through the opening and is provided with a transverse opening (9) formed adj acent its lower end. An enlarged head (10) is formed at the opposite end of the shank- (8) and overhangs the rail seat and normally is held in contact with the base of the rail (l). The head is provided with an enlarged outer end and is provided with opposite beveled lower faces (l0 and 12) which engage the base of the rail.
The body portion (2) is placed beside the tie with the rail fitting in the seat formed in the upper face of the body portion, and with one side of the rail base fitting beneath the tongue (6). The rail clamp has its shank 8) pass through the opening formed in the body portion and is turned so that it-s head will be facing in the opposite direction to that in which the rail creeps. A washer (11a) is placed upon the lower portion of the shank and a securing pin (12a) is passed through the opening (9) and holds the rail clamp in place. By the clamping effect of the head (10) the entire track is prevented from creeping by the tapered lower portions of the anti-Creepers which are embedded in the road-bed, beside the tie, and thus prevent any creeping.

An anti-Creeper comprising a body portion providing a tapered lower portion to be embedded in the track bed at the side of the railroad tie, a tongue formed upon one side of said body portion and bent upon said body portion to overlap the same, a rail-lock removably connected with the opposite end of said body portion and provided with an enlarged head which overhangs said body portion, the lower portion of said head being provided with oppositely beveled faces adapted to engage arail base.
