SASH-CORD-PULLEY AND SHADE HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED D. BERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sash-Oord-Pul ley and Shade Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a combined sash cord pulley and shade holder.
The object of the invention is to provide a common metal plate adapted to be fitted in the upper portion of a window frame for the purpose of supporting both the sash cord pulley and a support for a shade roller, the said pulley and support forming also a part of the device as ofiered for sale.
The invention consists of the novel features of construction, hereinafter set forth, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which,

Fig. 3 is a detail transverse section, a support for the window shade being shown in plan view. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of one of the supports removed from its guide-way.
In constructing the device I cast or otherwise form of suitable metal a pulley box 1, provided with an upwardly extending guide-way 2, an outwardly projecting lug or stop 3 being formed at the upper portion of the box 1, said stop separating the box portion from the guide-way, and preventing a lower sash from being raised high enough to come into engagement with the shade roller. The casting consisting of these portions 1 and 2 is designed to be set in the upper portion of the window frame, one casting upon each side of the window, and secured by screws. In the guide-way portion 2 which consists of a vertically grooved strip, the groove being undercut as shown at 3*, is slidably held a plate 4, and the plate upon one side carries a recess boss 5 adapted to receive the cylindrical end of the shade bracket, and the other plate 4 will carry a larger boss 6 provided with a suitable oblong recess 7 having a side slot 8 to receive the squared end of the shade roller, said roller being indicated at 9. One advantage of this form of structure is that by mounting the shade roller within the window frame there is no marring of the outer sash work and by making said supports adjustable vertically ventilation at the top is allowed for, without permitting the air currents to flow down beneath and from under the lower end of the shade. Shades hung at the top of the window in the usual manner are generally blown inwardly, or their upper portions secured outwardly when the window is lowered from the top, and very often the shade is loosened from the roller if allowed to remain down under such conditions.
As will be seen from the Figs. 1 and 2 with my construction the upper sash can be lowered in order to permit top ventilation and the air currents are admitted above and not beneath the shade. By making the plates 4 adjustable vertically, locking them by set screws 10 the amount of space between the top of the shade and the top of the window can be regulated to suit the party using the same.
What I claim is:
1. As a new article of manufacture, a metal sash cord pulley box having an inte gral vertically extending guide-way an outwardly projecting stop arranged between the guide-way and the said box and vertically movable means for supporting an end of a shade roller, said means working in the said guide-way.
2. A device of the kind described consisting of a metal pulley block, a vertical extension integral therewith, said extension being provided with an undercut vertical groove, a shade roller support movable vertically in said groove, means for locking the same in an adjusted position and a window stop formed upon the outer face of the pulley box, and at the lower end of said groove, as and for the purpose set forth.
