Specicetion of Letters Patent.
'etented Ar., Si?.
Application filed September 2S. 1.93.1. Serie No. kfi?.
To all 'ze-fiomt may concern Be it known that l, l-lAnRisoN B. WALTER,
a citizen of the United States, residing et raised, duc to :i pivotal connfmion between Danville, in the countsT of `Vermilion and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Suit and Het Boxes, of which the following is ay specification.
My invention relates to :in improvement in collapsible suit and het boxes, and the object is to provide means whereby' two of the side members can be readilyv and quickly an upright position and held, and then the other side or end members can be raised and held in an upright position between the already raised side members.
The invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts Which will be hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective View; Fig. 2 is a. view showing the box in the knock down or fiat condition, with the end deps extending out- Wardly; Fi 3 is an end View, showing the manner of ringing the side members to a vertical position. Fig. 4 is a bottom plan View of one member of the box folded as shipped; and Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail View.
A, represents the bottom of one section of the'box, and 1, 1, are the sides, which are rovided with end flaps 2, 2, the end flaps ing pivotally connected together by straps When the side members 1, l, are brought osition, the end flaps 2 extend es to the sides 4end the end together bythe straps 3, which form a support or holdin the side members in a. verticel'position. A ter the side members have been brought to a vertical position, the end members .4 are raised against the end naps and between the side members, whereby'the box can be lled.
By referring to Figs. 2 and 4, o the drawings, a better idea will be obtained of the arran ement of the box in a'knockdown or shipping condition. In Fig. 2 I have shown the 'end Bapswith the straps extending outwardl to better disclose the invention, but in `ig. 4 I have shown the normal position taken by the end flaps and straps when the box is in a shipping condition. Therefore, when it is desired to as- 3. to a, Yertical at right an ilaps are hel semble be box, one of the side members i is grasped. holding it to n vertioalposition,
which senses the other side member to be the two nmmbers by the :st-raps 3, the end iiaps and sirops being drawn outwardly and from beneath the bottom of the box as the side member drawnlto a vertical position. After the side members have been drawn to o 'vertical position, the end members, which are lying flat on the bottom of the box` are then raised to vertical 4position between the side members and against the end flaps and straps, thereby presenting the box in a. position to be filled.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that I have provided a very simple construction of box. in which the side and end members and bottom are all formed from e single piece of materiel. Theonly auxiliary pieces are the straps which connect the end flaps of theside members together, whereby the parts con be readily assembled from their knockdown position. Of course, when it is' desired to collapse the box,V the end members l are folded inward upon the bottom of the box, when the side members are folded and the end iin ps caused to be folded beneath and along the under surface of the bottom of the box, when it is then in a shipping or packing condition.
Having fully described my inventiomwhat I claim ns new and desire to secure by Letters Patent. is
l. A collapsible boxpcomprising e bottom having sides and ends connected thereto and adapted to be bent from the bottom to o, vertical position, integral end flaps connected to the sides and extending at right angles thereto, and straps pivotallv con,-
nected to the end flaps for supporting the ends and side members in a vertical position.
2. A box, comprising a bottom having sides and ends adapted to be folded to a vertical position. end naps connected to the side members. and straps pivoiollr connected to the end flops for holding the side members and ends in a vertical position, said side and end members adapted to be folded down upon the bottom of the box when the box is in a collapsed condition, and the end Hops and straps extending along the underside f the box.
3. A box, comprising a bottom having l ends adapted to sides and ends hinged thereto, adapted bo be swung to a, vertical position, end aps connected to each of the side members pivtion, and the flaps swung beneath the bottom of the box.
In testimony whereof I am# my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
