My invention relates to straw-cutting machines;

and f It consists in the construction and novel arrangement of devices intended to sex-ve as eflieient means for the pnrpose named.

A, of the drawings, vrepresents a frame, upon which I arrange the Shaw-holding box B, in the manncr shown.

At the front end and over the'straw-holding box, I afix a cap, c, in a diagonal position, having an opening below it of the form shown at D'on fig. 1. Through this diagonal opening the straw is passed to the knives.

E represents the lever 'by whichthe knives are operated. It is pivotedv to a frame-post, and also to the knives, respectively as shown on figs. 1 and 3.

H is a knife, pivoted at one end to the level` E, and slotted at its opposite end. It is 'slotted so las to clasp the bolt v, and xnove thereon back and forth easily.

I is a-knife, also pivoted at one end to level' E, andl slotted at its oppos'rte end, so as to operate on the bolt 'v in the same manner as knife H.

I arrange a guard, '9, upon each front post of' the device, one of which holds the slotted ends of the lknives and the bolt-o, while the otherl holds the .piv-

To operate my device .Ip-ass the straw, with one hand, through the opening I), and press down the lever with the otherhand. These movementsrbring the straw immediately between the ascending and descending-knives, each of which movesin a-diagonal line, and the sti'aw is cut with great ease and rapidity.
