Application filed January 11, 1912. Serial No. 670,587.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK R. BrsHoP, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Attleboro, county of Bristol, and State of Massachusetts,.have invented a new and useful Improvement in Eyeglass-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention pertains to certain new and useful improvements in eye glass holders, and relates more particularly to means for securing the reel in position.
The invention relates further to certain structural parts and combinations thereof as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings; Figure 1 is a perspective view of the casing with the cover and reel removed, illustrating the present invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the holder in its completed form. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the invention detached from the holder. Fig. 4 is an edge elevation of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 1s a top plan view of a blank from which the invention is formed. Fig. 6 is a top plan view of the s rin section on the inc -7 of Fi 6.
The casing 1 has a disk sol ered or otherwise rigidly secured to the bottom thereof, the disk 2 being formed as shown in Fig. 5 with two pairs of U-shaped slits or cuts 3 and 4, providing a cruciform arrangement as depicted in said Fig. 5. The material in the U-sha ed slits is then bent upwardly at right ang es to the disk 2 as shown in Fig. 3 to provide a long pair of opposite parallel projections 5 that are disposed at right gnlgles to the plane in which the projections The spring holding device consistsof a.
ring 7 formed witha bottom flange 8 which latter is provided with a pair of diametrically opposed slots 9 into which project the pro ections 6. The ring 7 is provided with notch 10 which is adapted to receive one end of the spring 10 of the reel 11. The reel 11 receives the projections 5 through the hub 12 thereof, the ends of the projections 5 being turned at right angles as indicated at 13 to en age the adjacent face of the reel to hold t e same in position. The casing 1 bears the usual cover 14.
From the above it will be seen that the pro'ections 5 and 6 serve to retain both the f plll'lg holding device and the reel in posiion.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent;
1. In combination with the casing and spring reel of an eye glass holder, a disk soldered to the back of the casing and formed with two pairs of opposite U-shaped sl ts, the material in said U-shaped slits being bent upwardly at right angles to the disk to form a long and a short pair of projections, the short pair of projections being disposed at right angles to the plane in which the long pair of flange at its bottom notched to receive said short'pair of projections, said ring belng formed with a slot to receive an end of the spring of the reel, and the reel being received over said long pair of projections, the free ends of the long pair of projectlons being bent outwardly to engage the ad acent face of the reel to secure the latter in position.
2. In combination with the casing and spring reel of an eye glass holder, a dlsk secured to the back of the casing and formed with a long and a short pair of projections, a spring holding device for the spring of the reel having notches to receive said short pair of projections, the reel being recelved over said long pair of projections and the free ends of the latter being bent outwardly to engage an adjacent face of the reel.
3. In combination with the casing and spring reel, a device having a long pair and a short pair of projections secured to the casing, the long pair of projections receiving the reel and being bent into engagement therewith, and means held by the short pair of projections to retain one end of the spring of the reel.
4. In combination with the casing and spring reel, a member secured to the back of the casing 'and formed w th a pair of projections, and a device hav ng notches to receive said projections and also havlng a slit1 to receive one end of the spring of the rec In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
