To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, RALPH ROMANO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hair-Clippers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to barbers clippers and its object is to provide a device in which the cutters are capable of being interchanged so that faster work or work on a different grade of hair may be provided for as will be more fully described in the following specification, set forth in the claims and illustrated in the drawings, wherein,

The clippers consist of a base 10, having at its outer edge the cutting teeth 11 and near its rear edge slots or indentations 12. Upon the base is arranged to slide, a cutting plate 13, also having teeth and a groove 14. This plate is guided with relation to the base piece by means of a block 15 integral with the base and passing through a slot 16 so that the plate will reciprocate and in conjunction with the teeth 11 efl ect the cutting of the hair.

The handles 17 and 18 are of ordinary construction having the finger pieces 19, and the handle 18 is provided with a head 20 having projections 21 to enter the slots 12, while the rear edge is provided with a flange 22 to form a rigid connection with the base plate. A stud 23 projects upward from the head 20 and on the same is pivoted the head 24 of the handle 17 This head is provided with a finger 25 and a flange 26, the former being adapted to play in the notch 27 at the rear of the plate 13 and cause it to move. The stud 23 is surrounded by a spring 28, connected with the head 2% and braced against a lug 29 to return the handle to its normal position.

Extending upward from the block 15 is a threaded stud 30 adapted to pass through the cap 31 and secure it in place by means of the nut 32. The front edge of the cap is provided with a plate 33 which plays. in the groove 14, while near the rear end are legs 34 which extend into cavities 35 in the base to prevent its dislocation. Near the rear end of the cap is a slot 36 into which projects the bolt 37 carried by the slotted arm 38 of the handle 18. By means of the nut 39, the bolt and arm are connected to the cap 31 and the parts secured together. When it is desired to repair these cutters, the parts are easily disconnected and taken apart and others substituted, or when it is desired to furnish a sharper cutting plate 13, the cap is simply removed and the plate lifted off the block 15. The handles may be removed if desired, or the whole quickly assembled and screwed together. By this arrangement the handles and the stud of the handle 17 are in no way connected with the base 10, and both of the bars with the cutting teeth may be removed from the handles and others substituted.

It is obvious that the parts may be otherwise arranged and modified without departing from the essential features above described.

This invention is especially adapted for changing the cutter knives so as to have smaller or larger plates of cutting teeth, and to make this change it is only necessary to loosen the nut 39 and slip the handles 17 and 18 from beneath the cap when other sized cutting knives may be substituted.

What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,-

1. In barbers clippers, the combination with a base piece, of a handle detachably connected with same, a pivoted handle, a reciprocating plate operated by the pivoted handle, and a cap securing the plates and the handle.

2. In barbers clippers, the combination with a base piece, of a handle secured thereto, a reciprocating toothed plate, a pivoted handle operating the toothed plate, and a cap secured to the base piece and retaining the toothed plate and the pivoted handle.

3. 1n barbers clippers, the combination with a base piece having a vertical stud, of a rigid handle secured to the base piece by means of projections, a reciprocating toothed plate, a movable handle pivoted to the rigid handle and operating the toothed plate, and a cap secured by the stud and retaining the toothed plate and the rigid handle on the base piece.
