Be it known that I, JOSEPH C; CARY, of the city, county; and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Strap Fastening for Packages; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, andF exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the saine, reference being-hadtotheicompanying drawing forming part of this specilicat-iou, in which drawing- Figure 1 is a cross-section ol' a package to which my improvement is applied,-niy improved strap being shown in said tigurc in longitudinal section.V

My invention relates-to straps -of metal or other material for securing boxes, barrels, and other pack.

It consists in providing such straps with elongated slots extending in the direction ofthe length of the strap. in combination with intermediate holes, in such a manner that where the ,ends of the strap overlap, or where one puit of the strap comes over another pai-t, the same nail -or screw can secure both parts or ends.
My invention further consists in so arranging the length of the slots, and-the spaces between the holes and the slots that, in overlapping, at least one of such holes shall coincide with or be opposite a slot.
My invention also consists in making the exterior or exposed surface o f the strap convex in cross-section.
