MILK-STRAINER.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Asumir F. Larry, a citizen of the United States, residing at Madison, in the county of Lake, State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Milk-Strainers; and I do here y declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to an improvement in strainers generally, although the same is especially adapted for use in connection with milk.

Another object of the invention is to provide a cleaner for the purpose described by means of which milk can be poured into a can and the said can sealed from air and the odors of the cow barn.

Another object of the invention is to provide a strainer having antiseptic material associated therewith, and through which the milk will ass.

A still lrther object of the invention is to provide a strainer in the nature of an attachment to a funnel whereby the same can be readily attached or detached, and when in the latter relation can be easily cleansed.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a strainer of the character described which is extremely simple in construction and cheap to manufacture.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto ap ended; it being understood that various c anges in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction, within the scope of the claims, may be resorted to without de arting from the spirit or sac` riiicing any o the advantages of the invention.

Like reference numerals designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawing.

Referring to the drawing, the invention comprises a funnel 5 having an inverted frusto-conical body portion 6 and a tubular neck 7. Arranged within said neck is a strainer which consists of outer and inner members 8 and 9 respectively. The outer member 8 is preferably formed of seamless sheet metal and comprises a fiared wall 10 having an inwardly extending flange 11 integral with the lower or smaller end thereof. A wire gauze 12 is secured to the flange 11 by solder or 'aiiy'other suitable means. The inner member 9 is likewise formed of seamless sheet metal and includes a wall 13 which is formed to correspond to and fit within the wall 10 of the outer member. Extendina inwardly from the upper or larger end o the wall 13 is an integral flange 14ste which is secured a wire gauze 15 by solder or other suitable means. tri'bf anti-septic absorbent material 16, such as, for instance, cotton, is disposed over the lower edge of the inner member, and has its marginal edges disposed between and clamped by the walls of the members 8 and 9.

In practice, after the outer member has been positioned within the neck 7 of the funnel, the strip of cottpn 16, is placed over the lower or smallere-nclb'the inner member and said member to ether with the cotvton strip is inserted wit iin the outer member, the strip being clamped by the walls of the member as above described.

Secured to the fiange 14 of the inner member is an upwardly extending bail 17, by means of which the said inner member can be readily attached to, or detached from the outer member, whenever it is desirous of exchanging the strip of cotton 16.

From the fore omg, it will be observed that when the mil passes down through the funnel it will first pass through the gauze l5 of the inner member, thence throu h the anti-septic material 16, and finally tirough the second gauze l2. As a result, the two ganzes will tend to separate any foreign matter from the milk, and the antiseptic cotton will eliminate any impurities in the milk which were not separated therefrom by the said gauze 15.

What is claimed is l. In combination with a funnel having a neck, of a strainer disposed within said neck consisting of inner and outer members, the outer member having a flared wall engaging the neck of the funnel, a wire gauze secured to the lower end of the wall, the inner member having a wall formed to correspond to the wall of the outer member, a wire gauze secured to the upper end of said inner member, and a strip of anti-septic material disposed over the lower edges of the inner member and having its marginal edges dis-- posed between and clamped by the walls of said members.

In combination with a funnel having a neck, of a strainer disposed Within said neck consisting of inner and outer members, the outer member having a iared wall enga-ging the neck of the funnel, a ange projecting inwardly from the lower edge of said wall, a wire gauze secured to said Bange, the inner member having a wall formed to correspond to the Wall of the outer member, a ange projecting inwardly from the upper edge of said inner member, a wire gauze secured to the last mentioned flange, and a strip of anti-septic material disposed over the lower edges of the inner member and havin its marginal edges disposed between and c amped by the Walls of said members.

In combination with a funnel having a neck, of a strainer disposed within said neck consisting of inner and outer members, the outer member havin a iared Wall engaging the neck of the e1, a wire gauze secured to the lower end of the wall, the inner member havin a wall formed to correspond to and fit wit in the wall of the outer member, a ange projecting inwardly from the upper edge of said inner member, a wire gauze secured to the last mentioned flange, an upwardly projecting bail also secured to said flange, and a stri of antiseptic material disposed over the ower edge of the inner member and having its marginal ed es disposed between and clamped by tbe wa ls of said members.
