maaier.
Specification pf Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 16, MM2.
Application filed December 27, 191.0. Serial No. 599,501.
,To all whom it may concern:
Be it. known that I,. WALTER .EloHEL- Knaur, a subject of the King of Prussia, and resident of 6/8 Seehofstrasse, Zehlendorf, near Berlin, Grermany,` architect, have invented certain new and useful -Improve-l ments in Safety Devices for Cash-Desks, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to apparatus for regulating and controlling the access of persons to cashiers windows and like payment apertures in banks, post-oliices, theaters and similar public buildings and has for its object to provide an arrangement for preventing the public on the one hand and the cashier on the other hand from being robbed.
According to the inventioa admission to the cash-desk is obtained through a winged door or turnstile provided with a locking and unlocking arrangement which may 'be' locked in one position and canonlv be unlocked by the cashier.'4
In order that the invention may be more' clearly understood reference is made tothe accompanying drawings whereon-the preferred method of carrying out the` invention is illustrated by way of example.
Figure l is a vertical section and Fig. 2 a cross-section through the cash-desk and safety arrangement-f Referring to the drawings: The counter I a is separated from the 'public by a Wall b in which is a Window a. is indicated at d. In-front of the window c is a four-winged rotatable door e surrounded by a cylindrical casing f. The door is only rotatable in the direction of the arrow, and carries at its upper end a toothed ring g prevented from rotating in a direction opposite to the arrow by a pawl g. The public "enter and leave the rotatable door at I `,and after passing through the spaces II and III reach the position IV in frontofthe cash Window c. The compartments II and III are provided with doors i in thecasing f, thesedoors only opening from the inside and closing automatically!- Persons in the compartments II and III, ycan thereby leave Without going to thev cashdesk.
In the compartment IV is a foot-board z' movable about a pivot z" and which rests at its front end on a one-armed lever lo hanging from a double-armed lever lo. The lat-V 'I`he cashiers seat" ter carries4 a foot-plate 7a2 which can be pressed down by .the cashier so as to operate a rod m through the lever 7u, the rod m being bent into Uform at its upper end and terminating in a pin lm which engages holes m2 in the toothed ring g.
As soon as a person enters the compartment IV thefoot-board pressed down under his Weight and the-rod mi is lowered bythe lever 7e until the pin m falls into one of theV holes m2. The revolving door is therebylocked and is prevented from being moved in either direction. The compartment IV is inaccessible Yfrom outside and the person therein can only leave after the cashier, by depressing the lever 7c, has raised -the foot-'board a' and the rod m and thereby withdrawn the I claim n l. An apparatus for regulating and -controlling the access-of persons to cash desks, comprising, in combination, a movable winged-door in front of the cash desk, a
pin m from thehole m2.
yso
movable loor-plate in front of the cash desk, adapted to be depressed by the 4weight of* the person thereon, locking means for preventing motion ofisaid door in either direction, mechanical connections from said floor plate to said locking means, and means, operatabl'zl from the rear of the cash desk, for raising said floor platefand `releasing the door. l
2. An apparatus for regulating and con'-l trolling the access of persons to cash desks, comprising, in' combination, a vrotatable winged door in front of the cash desk, a pivoted floor plate in front of the cash desk, a pivoted lever supporting said floor plate near its free end, a bolt connected to said pivoted lever, an annular plate mounted on the door and having holes` adapted tohe engaged by said bolt, and a treadle lever extending to .the rear of the cash desk and connected tosaid ypivoted lever.
3. An apparatus for regulating and controlling the access of persons to cash desks,
comprising, in combination, aA rotatable ,I
winged door in front of the cash desk, a pivoted floor plate in front of the cash desk, afpivoted lever supporting said Hoor plate near its free end, a bolt connected to saidv pivoted lever, an annular plate mounted on the door and having holes adapted to be engaged by said bolt, a treadle lever extending to the rear of the cash desk and connected to said pivoted lever, ratchet teeth carriedby said annular plate and a pawl engaging'said teeth.
4. An apparatus for regulating and controlling the access of persons to oashdesks, comprising, in combination, a movable "winged door in front of the cash desk, -a
bolt automaticallyv adapted to lookthe door and. prevent its motion in either direction,
and means, operatable from the rear of the cash desk, for withdrawing said bolt, a cas- I I ing surrounding the greater part of said door and auxiliary doors in said casing and adapted to open outwardly.
