Be it known that I, HENRY Come, a citizen of the United States, residing at West sachusetts, have invented an Improvement in Picker-Checks, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanylng drawing, is a speclfication, l1ke characters on the drawing representing like The objects of my invention are to provide a simple and inexpensive picker check which can be readily applied to any loom employing a rocker foot, and which will eifectively act to check the movement of the picker in both directions.

I will first describe some embodiments of my invention and then point out the novel features thereof in the appended claims.

Referring now to the drawings, Figure 1 shows the rocker foot, rocker and portion of the picker stick of a loom having one embodiment of my invention thereto; Fig. 2 is a similar View showing a difierent embodiment of the invention; Fig.

I have not deemed it necessary herein to illustrate any portion of the loom except the rocker foot,.rocker and lower end of the picker stick, as the principle and operation of the invention will be readily understood by those skilled in the art without showing any other parts of the loom.

In the drawing 3 designates a portion of the loom frame, 1 the usual rock-shaft sustained therein, 5 the rocker foot carried on the end of the rock-shaft, and 6 the rocker which operates on the rocker foot, and 7 the picker stick which is secured to the rocker 6 in usual way by bolts or other fastenings 8. These parts may be of any suitable or usual laterally to form the seat portion 10 in applied 1 construction and form no part of my present mventlon. Associated which is received a cushion device 11, as shown and described in a co-pending application filed on January 26, 1910, jolntly by myself and R. C. Snow, Se. No. 536,679, which cushion device is adapted to actagainst the under side of the rocker foot, thereby to'check and limit the swinging movement of the picker stick in both directions, all as described in said application.

In my present improvement, I provide the member 9 with the extension 12 which is acted upon by a spring 13 that tends to throw the picker stick into its backward position, as shown in Fig. 1, and which spring takes the place of the ordinary heel strap spring. In the embodiment of the invent-ion shown in Fig. 1 this spring 13 encircles a rod 14 which extends through the extension 12 and which is supported in some suitable way by the rocker foot 5. The heel strap spring is usually supported in a lug 15 which is formed on and depends from the rocker foot 5, andin the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, the rod 14 is adapted to be sustained in this lug, and for this purpose sald rod is provided with an upwardly-bent portion 16 and a laterally-bent portion 17, said portion 17 being securedin the lug 15 by suitable set nuts 18. In the operation of the device when the picking mechanism is actuated to give the picker stick its operative movement, the rocker 6 will rock over the rocker foot 5 in usual manner, and in doing so the spring 13'will be compressed more or less. Said spring 13 will thus act as a means to check the forward movement of the picker stick and the movement of the stick is limited by the engagement of the cushion device 11 with the underside of the rocker foot, it being understood that when the picker stick is in an intermediate position the cushion device 11 does not engage the underside of the rocker foot, but only has engagement therewith when the picker stick is in either 18 tends to return the picker stick to its normal position, and when the shuttle is thrown and strikes the picker the backward movement of the picker stick will be limited by the engagement of the cushion member' 11 with the underside of the rocker, as shownin Fig.1.

The device shown in Fig.1 is adapted to be applied to the rocker foot as now commonly constructed with the lug 15 designed employedfor checking the' movement of the picker stick in b'otl'r directions, As herein shown, the spring 130 is sustained by a rod 140, which instead of being carried by the,
