Specification of Letters Patent.

To all 'whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MAURICE T. MiLLER, citizen of the United States, residing at Scranton, in the county of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door- Crape Hangers, of which the following is a specification. Y

This invention relates to the class of undertaking, and pertains especiallyfto means for attaching and suspending door Grape for funerals.

The object of the invention is to provide a metal head-plate for door crape adapted to have such crape permanently attached thereto, so that the same plate and the same crape may be repeatedly used without injury either Vto the plate or to the crape, and so that the Grape head is not disturbed or displaced with respect to the plate owing to such repeated usage; and to provide means (on the back or reverse side of said plate to that occupied by the Grape-head) for hooking the plate to a special hanger for suspending the plate. f

A further object of the invention is to provide a hanger or holder of novel and peculiar construction and arrangement for suspending the head-plate from a door or door-casing or other place where it may be applied.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a hanger or holder of such novel and peculiar construction and arrangement of parts as to be attached to and removed from a door or other place for hanging door-Grape` without defacing or damaging the door or other object to which it is attached, and adapted to be revolved or turned in attaching and detaching it, without the use of tools or implements.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a hanger having a screw-pin on one side thereof for attaching the hanger and a spring catch on the other side thereof for suspendingehead-plates of door Grape.

Various other objects, advantages and improved results are attainable in the practical application of the invention, as will be hereinafter set forth.

In the accompanying drawings forming part of this application Figure 1 is a Yperspective view showing the application of the invention. The Grape-head or rosette l, is attached to the outer face of a head-plate 2, bystitching, sewing or tying the edges of the head f 1, through a series of small apertures 3 made in the plate 2 adjacent the edges theree,

gidity and thickness as to remain in flatf plate form. The inner face of the plate 2 is provided with a loop 4 so as to leave an interval or space between the body of the loop and this face of the plate for hanging the plate on a holder or hanger, now to be described in detail.`

The holder or hanger comprises an VL- shaped bracket, the vertical member 5, of which has a flange 6 struck up therefrom and projecting at right angles to the outer face of said bracket member 5, so as to leave an opening 7 in the said member adjacent to and between the flange 6 and the short member 8, of thebracket: the function of the flange, the opening, and the short memberof the bracket will be hereinafter more fully explained: the hanger further comprises a plate-spring 9 attached to the front or outer face of the member 5, and a short screw-pin or stud 10, projecting from the inner or back face of the member 5, and adapted to be screwed into a door-siding l1, or other place for attaching the hanger thereto; said spring-plate 9 has a shoulder 12 bearing against the member 5, a groove 13 for holding the loop 4, and a spring-wing 14 adapted to engage the plate above the loop 4, while the spring 9 of the hanger-member 5 engages the said plate 2 below the loop 4, and parallels the member 5 with thev plate 2, while suspending the latter. The flange V6 forms a grasping means for the thumb and fingers in screwing and unscrewing the holder or bracket, and the opening 7 permits the thumb or finger to be inserted therethrough in grasping the flange 6.

It will be understood that the hanger or bracket-screw is first screwed to a door, door-sash, door-siding, or other place where it is desired to hang the Grape, by simply turning the bracket, and then the loop 4 of the'plate is passedl over the wing 14C and over the spring shoulder l2 into the groove 13; a reverse movement of the plate 2 will remove it from the bracket or holder, carrying with it the crape.

It is obvious that the head-plate and the bracket or holder are capable of various mechanical modifications in the manufacture thereof as to the method of making, relation of parts, and the material; and that the device may be expeditiously applied to a door or adjacent thereto.

It will be seen that the head-plate permits the crape to hang straight therefrom without special adjustment of the hanging crape; that the crape-head is not disturbed, soiled or mutilated in applying the crape to and removing it from a door or other place of attachment; and the connection between the holder or hanger and the head-plate is sucli as to hold the latter rigid and firmly in proper position.

It will be observed that when the device is not in use it may be preserved in connected or joined condition ready to be applied without the use of tools or implements; and

that it may be repeatedly used from time to time as desired or as occasion may demand.

Having thus described my invention what I cl'ainr as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A door crape and a support therefor comprising a crape head plate, a loop on the inner face of the plate, and a holder for the plate having a spring catch on the front face thereof for engagement with the loop, and a screw projecting from the inner face of the holder.

2. A door crape and a support therefor comprising a plate to which the crape is attached, a loop on the inner face of the plate, and a screw plate having a top flange projecting from the outer face thereof into engagement with the crape plate' above the loop, and a spring catch depending from the outer face of the screw plate for the loop and engaging the crape plate below the loop.
