Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES SCOTT PARRISH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Richmond, county of Henrico, and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ice-Cream Freezers, of which the following is a full and clear specification,-reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of an ice cream freezer provided with my improvements; Fig. 2 a similar View of a detail showing a device for locking the outer end of the frame to the tub; Fig. '3 a vertical transverse section through the gearing frame and the top portion of the freezer can; Fig. at a vertical sectional view through the frame, taken on aline at right angles to Fig. 3; and Fig. 5 a detail perspective View of the lock plate.
The object of the present invention is to improve and simplify the gearing frame, and the invention consists of certain novel features of construction hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawing a designates the two parallel bars of the gearing frame, connected together at one end by an integral connection (2 and at their other ends by a vertical cross plate 0, which plate 0 and a lugged plate d serve as the hinged connection between the frame and the tub. The frame is braced and connected by additional cross connec tions 6. The frame is set down bodily into notches formed in the rim of the tub, the hinged end of the frame being set down in a single notch and the outer end of the frame being set down in a pair of separated parallel notches f. Rigidly fastened on the exterior of the tub is a lock plate 9 which is provided with vertical slots coinciding with the slots f in the tub, the metal between the slots extending upwardly to the upper edge of the rim of the tub, to brace and support the portion h of the tub stave which lies between the aforesaid slots 7'. One of the bars a; is provided at a pointbeyond the plate 9 with a hole 2', into which the point of the locking lever j is adapted to enter and lock the frame down rigidly against the bottoms of the slots in the lock plate 9. This lever jis pivoted on the lock plate at Z and is provided with a handle or thumb piece a. The handle or thumb piece at is heavier than the portion of the lever at the opposite side of the pivot Z and therefore tends to swing downwardly; to prevent this and thus hold the lever in convenient position while unlocked the lock plate 9 is provided with an outwardly extending lug m. It will be observed that by thus providing the tub with a lock plate and a locking lever and notching the lock plate coincidentally with the tub, a rigid and durable as well as simple locking device is provided. The side bars of the frame are bulged about mid-way their length to receive the gearing cover 0, and extending across under the cover is a transverse plate 79 rigidly attached at its ends to the side bars of the frame and provided mid-way its length with a hole for the reception of the cylindrical hub of the upper gear 9 which is adapted to engage and rotate the angular shaft r of the dasher. Rigidly fastened by rivets s or otherwise to the under side of the gear supporting plate p is a supplemental plate 25 which at a point between its ends is bent downwardly and is provided mid-way its ends with a hole for the reception and guidance of the upper cylindrical tubular part u of the freezer can, this. can being adapted to be rotated, as usual by a driven gear 2: meshing with a gear -w on the can top. It will be observed that the supplemental plate 22 forms a brace and bearing for the rotating can, thus avoiding the necessity of extending the hub of the upper gear downwardly past the supporting plate for, that purpose.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is- I 1.,In an ice cream freezer, the combination of a gearing frame consisting of separated bars, a horizontal plate connecting the same and provided with a central opening for the hub of the driven gear, and a supplemental plate provided with a coinciding hole for the reception of the top of the freezer can.
