  • My invention relates to improvements in rubber shoes and the object of the invention is to devise a reinforcement for the counter and heel of the rubber shoe that will effectually prevent the breaking from creasing or subsidence of the back of the counter immediately above the heel or heel sole which is commonly caused by the rubber shoe being worn on leather shoes of varied styles of heels and which do not fit the interior of the counter or heel portion and at the same time form such a reinforcement in one piece so that there will be no liability of parting between the heel portion of the reinforcement and the counter portion.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN HEYROOK Ronn- DING, of the city of Berlin, in the county of Waterloo, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rubber Shoes, of which the following is the specification.
My invention relates to improvements in rubber shoes and the object of the invention is to devise a reinforcement for the counter and heel of the rubber shoe that will effectually prevent the breaking from creasing or subsidence of the back of the counter immediately above the heel or heel sole which is commonly caused by the rubber shoe being worn on leather shoes of varied styles of heels and which do not fit the interior of the counter or heel portion and at the same time form such a reinforcement in one piece so that there will be no liability of parting between the heel portion of the reinforcement and the counter portion.
The invention comprises the novel features of construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and particularly defined in the appended claims.-
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure l, is a general perspective view of a rubber shoe, the heel portion of which is broken away to exhibit my reinforcement. Fig. 2, is a longitudinal section through the heel portion of the shoe. Fig. 8, is a perspective View of the heel portion of the shoe looking from the bottom. Fig. 4, is a perspective detail of the reinforcement as it fits within the shoe. Fig. 5, is a detail of the blank forming the reinforcement.
In the drawings like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
A is a rubber shoe of which A is the out side rubber portion in which my reinforcing piece is inserted.

It will be understood that the heel portion of an ordinary rubber shoe is liable to break and crease into the form shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1. r

The counter portion B is preferably provided with wings B so that the counter portion is bent up into the form shown in Fig. 4:, such wing portions extending to each side of the counter portion and forming V-shaped notches upon opposite sides of the portion B It will be understood that between the wing portions B the counter portion B and the heel portion B is formed integral. It will thus be seen that when the reinforcement is inserted in the rubber shoe as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 that there will be no liability of the counter portions separating from the heel portion of the reinforcement as is liable when the reinforcemnt is made with the counter and heel portion separate.
What I claim as my invention is,
1. In a rubber shoe, the combination with the heel portion and counter portion, of a reinforcement extending between the heel portion and counter portion and comprising a blank of suitable material formed with side V-shaped notches intermediate of its length having one side arc-shaped and the other straight and forming with the rear portion lateral wings, the rear portion of the blank being designed to be turned up for insertion bet-ween the counter and heel portion, and the back edge of each notch being designed when the rear portion is turned up to abut and aline with the outside curved portion of the notch at the edge of the sole as and for the purpose specified.
2. In a shoe, a reinforcement for the heel portion comprising a blank of suitable material formed with side V-shaped notches intermediate of its length, having one side arcshaped and the other straight and forming with the rear portion lateral wings, the rear port-ion of the blank being designed to be turned up for insertion between the counter and heel portions and the back edge of each notch being designed when the rear portion is turned up to abut and aline with the opposite curved portion of the notch at the edge of the sole as and for the purpose specified.
