To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MARION J Ross, a citizen of the United States, residing in Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Baby-Holder Attachments for Cribs, &c., of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to provide improved means for preventing a baby or small child from falling out of a crib, cradle or bed while permitting perfect freedom of movement of the child within proper limits.

According to this invention I provide a novel construction of harness, having parts which are adapted to pass over the shoulders of the child, down its back and over its chest, these parts which are called shoulder straps meeting at the back midway between the upper and lower ends thereof and at the front just above the abdomen, thus producing V-shaped straps at the front and at the back. The V-shaped shoulder straps are connected at the back and at the front with a looped piece of webbing which extends to a point between the legs of the child where it is adj ustably connected with a strap provided with means at its outer or lower end for attaching it to the foot-board of a crib, cradle or bed. The shoulder straps are attached to a transversely arranged strap which encircles the childs body just below the arms and which is made adjustable in length. The straps may all be made of suitable material, such as inelastic webbing or other similar fabric.

In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 shows a perspective View of the harness. Fig. 2 is a plan View thereof, showing diagrammatically how it is applied to a child and attached to a crib.

The shoulder straps A, A are double V-shaped; that is to say, they are in the form of a V at front and at rear, having portions which extend over the shoulders of the child. At their lower ends a, a the V-shaped straps are secured to a looped piece of webbing B, which is provided with a buckle C by which it may be adjustably secured to another strap D, looped at cl and provided with a buckle E, by which means it may be secured to the foot-board of the crib, cradle or bed. The points a, a of the shoulder straps are located just below the chest and in the small of the back when the harness is applied, while the looped strap B has its lower end located between the legs of the child. The transversely arranged strap F is secured at f to the four members of the shoulder straps and is provided with a buckle G by means of which it may be adjusted to securely fasten the harness to the child. The buckle C is shown in the drawings as being located between the knees of the child, but it may be otherwise located if required.

By means of this harness a child is given sufficient freedom of movement. It can easily turn over on its side or on its stomach or on its back and may also sit up in bed but it is restrained from such movement as would enable it to fall out of the crib, especially where the crib or cradle has high sides, as is generally the case.

I claim as my invent-ion:

A baby holder for cribs, comprising shoulder straps having a front V-shaped portion and a back V-shaped portion, a transversely arranged strap secured to both the front and back portions and adapted to encircle the childs body below the arms and provided with adjusting devices, a looped strap attached at its ends to the apexes of the front and back V-shaped portions of the shoulder straps and adapted to extend to a point between the legs of the child, and another strap adjustably connected with said looped strap and provided with means for attaching it to the frame of the crib.
