To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, h IARCUS S. CLARKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Houston, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ironing-Boards, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in ironing boards.

The object of the invention is to provide a device of the character described which is designed to be used particularly for the purpose of ironing the sleeves of garments and other small articles, and one which can be readily attached to and detached from a table or other suitable support.

With the above and other objects in view my invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction and use, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof, partially broken away, Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view of a modified form of the device, and Fig. 1 is another form of the device.

Referring now more particularly to the drawing, wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in each of the figures, the numeral 1 refers to a suitable table, or other support, upon which the board is mounted.

The numeral 2 refers to the board proper, and the numeral 3 designates a supporting brace designed to support the ironing board 2. This brace comprises a flat base 3 and two downwardly extending legs 3 and 3, which support the base 3 and are integral therewith. The base 3 has a centrally located upstanding stud 4L which extends through a suitable hole in the board 2. After the board 2 has been placed in position on the base 3 a washer 5 is placed on the free end of stud 4 and the said end of said stud is then clenched over the washer so as to securely hold the same thereon and the board 2 is thus firmly held on the base 3. The base 3 is provided with two upstanding nibs, 6 and 7, which project into the board 2 and secure the same against turning on the base. The free end of leg 3 of brace 8 is somewhat longer than leg 3' and the elongated portion is rearwardly curved and is designed to extend through a hole 8 in support 1 and engage therein, as shown in Fig. 1. The leg 3 is provided with a shoulder 9 which engages against the top of support 1 and serves to support said leg, and prevents the same from extending too far through the hole 8. The free end of leg 3 is provided with a foot 10, extending laterally each way, as shown in Fig. 2, which is integral with said leg and serves to prevent the brace 3, and the board 2 carried thereby, from tilting sidewise, in either direction.

Fig. 3 shows a modified form of the device as attached to the edge of the supporting table instead of extending through the hole 8 thereof. In this form the numeral 11 refers to a clevis which straddles the leg 3 and engages over the hook 12 carried on the outer side of said leg. This clevis c'arries the hooks 13 at its lower end, which engage against the under side of table 1 and hold the brace 3 against accidental detachment therefrom.

In Fig. 4 I have shown the device secured to the support by means of a tie 14: which engages over the free end of leg 3 and is secured to the bottom of support 1 by means of screw 15.

It is to be observed that this device is to be used merely for ironing the sleeves of garments and other small articles and may be attached to the ordinary large ironing board; in case it is so used it is not neces sary that it be detached therefrom when not in use but both boards may be laid aside, when not in use, without detaching the smaller from the larger.

WVhat I claim is 1. A device of the character described composed of a suitable board and a supporting brace therefor; said brace comprising a supporting base, a stud upstanding therefrom and extending through said board and a plurality of nibs projecting from said base into said board, a plurality of legs extending from said base and designed to rest upon a support for said device, and a detachable means engaging with one of said legs and also with the support and securing the brace to the support.

A device of the character described including a suitable support, and a supporting brace mounted thereon; said brace including a suitable base and two downwardly extending legs integral therewith, one of said legs engaging against said support and the other of said legs resting thereon; a detachable means carried by the leg engaging against said support and engaging with the support, and a board secured to said base.

3. A device of the character described including a suitable support, and a supporting brace mounted thereon; said brace including a suitable base and two downwardly extending legs integral therewith, one of said legs engaging with said support and the other of said legs resting thereon, a shoulder carried by the first mentioned leg and resting upon said support, a detachable means carried thereby and engaging with said support, and a supporting foot carried by the other of said legs extending laterally on each side thereof and resting upon said support.

A device of the character described in cluding a suitable support and a supporting brace mounted thereon; said brace including a suitable base and two legs integral therewith, one of said legs engaging with said support and the other of said legs resting thereon, a shoulder carried by the first mentioned leg and resting upon said support and a detachable hook carried by said leg and engaging with the support, a supporting foot carried by the other of said legs and extending laterally therefrom on each side thereof and resting on said support, a board on said base and an upwardly extending stud and a plurality of upwardly extending nibs carried by the base and projecting into said board and securing the same on the base.

5. A device of the character described composed of a suitable board and a support ing brace therefor; said brace comprising a supporting base, a means for securing the board thereto, a means projecting from said brace into said board, a plurality of legs extending from said base designed to rest upon a support for said device, and a detachable means engaging with one of said legs and also with the support securing the brace to the support.
