UNITED STATES OFFICE.
7 PAUL MARTIN, OF ROUBAIX, FRANCE.
HOLDER FOR PRINTING-SURFACES.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PAUL llIAn'rrN, a citizen of the French Republic, and residing at Rue du Fontenoy, Ronbaix, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in and Relating to Holders for Printing-Surfaces, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to holders for printing surfaces, and is more especially adapted for use in connection with the stereotype cylinders of cylindrical printing presses, and if so desired may be applied to the cylindrical printing press described in my specification No. 077427 filed August 1.6, lDlO.
The invention consists in providing at each end of the stereotype cylinder a flat circular plate mounted coaxially with the said cylinder, and holders having screwed shanks on which nuts are threaded being provided, the said nuts being held between the end plates of the cylinders and the above mentioned flat circular plates.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan of a stereotype cylinder, Fig. 2 is an end view of Fig. 1, and Figs. 3 and 4t show a plan and elevation of one of the holders.
The stereotype cylinder is constituted by a cylinder a, carrying at each end and mounted co-axially therewith a flat circular plate, I). A number of grooves are arranged longitudinally in the surface of the cylinder a, and holders 0 are adapted to slide in the said slots. The holders have screwed shanks (2, formed integral therewith, and nuts, e, threaded on the said screwed shanks are held between the ends Specification of Letters Patent.
Original application filed August 16, 1910, Serial No. 577,427.
Serial No. 621,385.
. 'atented Apr. 2, 191.2.
Divided and this application filed April 15,
of the cylinder and the plates 5, through holes in which, and arranged opposite to the grooves formed in the surface of the cylinder (4, the shanks (Z project. By this means, when the nuts are rotated, the holders are translated along the grooves in the cylinder at. The said holders serve to retain on and adjust the position of, the stereotype plates on the cylinder a, and moreover they are capable of a somewhat extensive displacement on the said cylinder, for allowing the insertion of stereotype plates of different dimensions. Abutmeuts may be placed at f for facilitating the insertion of divided stcrcotyl'm plates.
.Ilaving now described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Lettors latent is:-
In a stereotype cylinder, cylindrical portions of reduced diameter at each end of said cylinder, circular end plates carried by said reduced portions, so as to form an annular space between each end of the cylinde and the adjacent plate holders for retaining and adjusting the stereotype plate sliding in slots in said cylinder, screwed shanks integral with said holders and )assing through the end plates, and nuts threaded upon said shanks and held wholly within the annular space between the cylinder and the end plates.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
PAUL MARTIN.
