' ATTORNEYS COLUMBIA PLANDGRAP C0" WASHINGTON D C JOHN THIR, OF DEXTER, NEW YORK.
CURTAIN-POLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 29, 1911.
Patented Apr. 2, 1912.
Serial No. 668,550.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN Turn, a subject of the Emperor of AustrianHungary, residing at Dexter, in the county of Jefferson and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ourtain-Poles, of which the following is a specitication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a curtain pole, and the primary object of my invention is to furnish a curtain pole with positive and reliable means, in a manner as will be hereinafter set forth, for holding the upper ends of curtains, whereby the curtains can be easily and quickly shifted or adjusted relat-ively to the curtain pole.
Another object of this invention is to provide a tubular curtain pole with novel carriers for supporting the upper ends of curtains, whereby the curtains can be shifted without injury to the same.
A further object of this invention is to provide a curtain pole that is durable, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to manipulate and highly eflicient for the purposes for which it is intended.
With theabove and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.
Reference will now be had to the drawings wherein there is illustrated a preferred embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that the structural elements are susceptible to such variations as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawingFigure 1 is a front elevation of a curtain pole in accordance with this invention; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View of the same; Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the shifting mechanism of the curtain pole; Fig. 4 is a perspective View of one of the carriers; Fig. 5 is an end View of another carrier, and Fig. 6 is an end view of still another carrier.
A pole in accordance with this invention comprises a hollow tubular rod 1 having a longitudinal slot 2 extending from one end thereof to the opposite end. Mounted upon the ends of the rods are heads or ornamentations 3 that are provided with openings 4. The heads 3 are hollow and are in communication with the rod 1.
Arranged within the ends of the rod 1 are movable carrier frames 5 having hangers (3 extending through the slot 2. The lower ends of the hangers G are toothed, as at 7, and each hanger has apertured lugs S to which is pivotally connected a springpressed clamping member 9, which cooperates with the lower end of the hangers G in holding the upper ends of a curtain.
Mounted in one end of each carrier frame is a transverse pin 10 and revolubly mounted upon said pin within said frame are two grooved pulleys 11 and 12. The opposite end of the carrier frame has a t'ansverse pin 13 and revolubly mounted upon said pin within the carrier frame a pulley 14.
\.rrangcd within the tubular rod 1, intermediate the ends thereof are carrier frames 15 and 16 having hangers 17 and clamps 18 similar to the hanger 6 and clamp 9 previously described. Ilevolubly mounted in the ends of the carrier frame 15 are rollers 19 and besides the said frame are provided with vertical arms 20 having sleeves 21. at the upper ends thereof, the purpose for which will presently appear.
I'levolubly mounted in the ends of the carrier frame 16 are rollers 22 and this frame intermediate the ends thereof is provided with a yoke23 that has the upper end thereof apertured as at 21.
Additional carrier frames are arranged within the rod 1, and revolubly mounted in the ends of said frame are rollers 26. The frames are designated 25 and each frame has a hanger 27 and a clamp similar to the carrier frames previously described.
The rollers 19, 22 and 26 ride upon the rod 1 at the rear side of the slot 2, whereby the hangers of the carriers can extend through said slot. Attached to the yoke 23 of the carrier frame 16 are the ends of cords 28 and 29. These cords pass over the pulleys 14, under and over the pulleys 12, said cords extending longitudinally of the rod and passing over the pulleys 11 and through the openings 1 whereby the cords can be easily gripped and pulled upon as occasion may require. The sleeves 21 of the arms 20 of the carrier frame 15 are connected to the cords 28 and 29, whereby when the cords are moved, the carrier frame 15 will be simultaneously moved with the carrier frame 16. By pulling upon one of the cords, the carrier frames 15 and 16 can be shifted toward the outer end of the rod 1 and by pulling upon the other cord said carrier frame can be shifted to the central part of said rod, In this manner the upper ends of curtains held by the carriers can be opened or closed, that is, the curtains shifted to the ends of the rods to open the curtains relatively to a window frame, or the inner edges of the curtains shifted toward each other to spread the curtains apart in a closed position relatively to a window frame.
The carrier frames 5 are held at the ends of the rod 1 by the ends 10 extending into the side walls of the rod, and in consequence of this arrangement the carrier frames 15, 16 and can be easily shifted within the rod.
What I claim is:
A curtain pole comprising a hollow rod having a longitudinal slot formed therein, hollow heads carried by the ends of said rod and provided with openings, stationary carrier frames arranged in the ends of said rod, pulleys revolubly mounted in said stationary carrier frames, movable carrier frames 15 and 16 arranged intermediate the ends of said rods, carrier frames arranged within said rods between said stationary carrier frames and said movable carrier frames, hangers carried by all of said carrier frames and extending through the slot of said rod and adapted to support the upper ends of curtains, cords having the ends thereof attached to said carrier frame 16 and extending over said pulleys with the opposite ends of said cord extending through the openings of said hollow head and means for attaching the carrier frame 15 to said cords, whereby when said cords are pulled said carrier frames 15 and 16 can be shifted back and forth in said rod.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
