To all 'whom it may concern: l

Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. PAULUS, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of ew York, have invented cer- -tain new and useful Improvements in Package-Band-Fastening Devices, of whichthe following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to makeand use the saine.

This invention relates t fastening' devicesV for use in connection withvbands de- Y signed to secure packages ofvarious artlcles' together', and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which is "simple in construction, convenient vin operation, and which will permit the use of a band without the necessity of tying the same. The invention is fully disclosed in the following speciticat-ion, of' which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are 'designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which;-.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved locking band employed in, connection with a band for tying up or`secur1ng a package of" neckties or similar-articles;

In the practiceiof my invention I provide a band a preferably of cardboard or other stitf, strong paper, and this band is divided transversely by score lines a2 which divide the same into four approximately equal parts as, at, a5 and au, and vthese parts are A then folded to form a complete fastening device b. In this operation the part a3 is first folded on to the part a4 andthe parts as and at are then folded on to the part a, after which the part a i'sfolded over the p art a4. A paper tie band o is employed in connection with the fastening device l), and

fin practice one end cZ thereof is passed through the center-of the fastening or locking band as shown at o3 and aroundV and across the back thereof as shown at o4 and `sealed at o5 in the construction shown in Fig. 3. The package tie holder is then complete and read 'for use, and in this use thel .the said package and through the locking band as shown at c7, and then` drawn tight and passed back through 'the fastening device and under the front a5 thereof. This forms a simple and effective fastening deviceforv the bundle or package d, and one from under the front fold a5 of the locking band Z) and then pulled out -in the direction of the arrow m2 of Fig. 3.

In Fig. 4 I have shown a slight modicati'onin whichvinstead of sealing the end c2 of the tie band c at c5 as shown in Fig. 3, the said end is pulled farther around and passed back between the parts a4 and a of the locking band as indicated at 08, and this is the only difference between the construction shown in Fig. 3 and that shown in Fig. 4. It will be understood however that when the deviceis in use, the end c2 ofthe band c will I be securely held when applied as shown in' Fig. 4. In practice I also preferably cut away the edges'of the front fold a5 of the band was shown at a7 in Fig. 1, and this facilitates' thefpassage of the end o of the band c under the said front fold a5 as will be-readily understood, and it will as made of paper it will be apparent that.
