The object of iny invention is to provide a device of the class mentioned Which shall be of light weight, suihciently flexible to be worn with comfort and which shall effectually prevent the wearer from receiving wounds to the parts of the body protected thereby. p

In carrying out my invention I form. the armor of a plurality of small metal plates suitably connected. The plates are as semhled preferably w th abutting edges and the are our en a, order to prevent a knife from being inserted between them. To facilitate. manufacturing and assembling the parts of the device they are preferably made of uniform shape and size.

An armor embodying my invention mayv be of any size or form to protect as much of the body as desired, but my invention relates particularly to the plates of which the armor is formed and the mannerot connecting the same. I
Referring now-to the drawings 1 indicates the plates which are of similar shape and size and assembled edge wise. By assembling the plates edge wise, that is with abut ting edges, the device may he made much lighter in weight than when made with overlapping edges.
The abutting edges of the plate arecurved as at 2 and 3 which-makes it more dittieult for a knife to penetrate betweenthe plates than when the edges are straight. I prefer to form the platesot similar size and shape and to this end they are preferably of general quadrilateral form arranged on the diagonal, with the two upper edges concave and the two lower edges convex. Byconstructing the device of similar quadrilateral plates with the lines of abntnientot the edges intersecting, the comers ottonr plates are in juxtaposition at eachintersection. As shown in Figs. 2 and the diagonally opposite corners are connected by links 4: and 5 which pass through smallperforations 6 formed in the corners of the plates to receive them. The crossed links t and 5 also prevent the insertion of a, weapon at these points where the .lines of division between the plates intersect.
In Figs. i, 5 and 6, I have illustrated modified means for connecting the plates, said means being :torzned integrally with. the respective plates 1. illustrated in Fig. 5 the upper corner of plates may be formed with small projections 9 which extend under the lower corner of the platev above thereby preventing depression of the lower corner out the plate. In Fig. 6 I have illustrated the projection each plate fitting into the concave edges of the next adjacent plates, substantiallv as described.
