BRYANT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Spokane, in the county of Spokane and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper- Racks and Display Devices; and I do here by declare thetfollowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to bag holders and display racks and has for its object to provide a device simple in construction to support an assortmentof paper bags or the like and so arranged that the device will always be horizontal with the counter or the like making each lot ofbagseasily accessible.

Another object is to provide a device capable of "supporting a great assortmentof bags, yet convenient to reach for any'sized bag from either end.

Another objectis to utilize all space for advertising purposes, causing the device to serve a double function.

Other objects will be apparent from the following specification, appended claims and drawings in which:

Figure 1 is an elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the device. Fig. 3 is a transverse sect-ion through one of the side bars of Figs. 1 and 2. Fig. 4c is a sectional view of the socket in which one end of the bag supporting means is inserted. Fig. 5 is an elevation thereof and, Fig. 6 is a vertical sectional view therethrough.

Referring to the drawing there is shown a rectangular frame comprising the side bars 10 and ends 11, said ends rising to a greater elevation than the side bars, and secured to the upper face of said ends are the platforms or shelves 12, upon each of which is mounted a bobbin of cord 13. Screw eyes 14 are inserted through said shelves and into the ends 11 and secured to said screw eyes are flexible connections 15, the other ends of which may be secured to the ceiling above the counter. The inner ends of the shelves 12 are supported by blocks 16, the bases of which rest upon the side bars. Diagonally disposed within said rectangular frame, and secured to the ends thereof is a pair of bars 17, in which are a plurality of apertures in which one end of the bag supporting pins 18 is intended to rest. to rest within a socket'member 19 having a tubular shell extending from "the rear face and adapted to telescope within a cup 20 inserted into an openingin the side bar 10 sion is placed within the space between the member 19 and the botton of the cup 20 so as-to tend to keep the member 19 extended.

The face of the socket member 19 is formed into three planes, the lower portion being farthest from the'cup 20, the upper portion set rearwardly therefrom so as to form a recess to assist in properly placing the pin 18 and the center being dished to form a socket to receive said pin 18.

Secured to the upper edges of the side bars lOof the frame are panels 22 intended to bear advertising matter. Placards may be inserted at the sides within racks consisting of a piece of light metal having its marginal edges bent upon themselves so as to form guides 23 as shown clearly in Fig. 3 of the drawings. The sides of bars 10 may also bear advertising matter, as shown in Fig. 1. l

The operation and advantage of the de vice are obvious in that the diagonal bars supporting one end of the pins which support the bags enable the assortment of bags to be duplicated on each side, andat the same time allow the greatest weight to fall between the supporting screw-eyes, causing the device to remain in level relation to the counter or the like and by the general construction of the yieldable socket members the application and removal of the bag supporting pins are simple and easy. In adthe available space is converted into an advertising medium.

I claim:

1. In a bag supporting device, a frame including substantially parallel side bars provided with apertures, two series of short bars extending transversely of the parallel bars, the bars of each series gradually increasing in length and having their outer ends supported in the side bars, the two series being reversely arranged, and means for supporting the inner ends of the aforesaid short bars.

2. A spring 21 under compresversely of the frame and secured to the end bars, means connecting said transverse members with the side bars and means for supporting between the side bars two series of bags, said means including two series of short bars, the bars of each series gradually increasing in length and the two series being reversely arranged.

3. In a bag supporting device, a rectangular frame formed with recessed side bars, apertured diagonally disposed bars within said frame, a cup within each of said recesses, a telescoping socket member in each of said cups, a spring in compression to extend said socket member, the latter having a substantially concave face, a socket proper in the center thereof, a portion of substantially U-shape extending from the oenter to the outer edge and disposed in the plane intermediate of planes passing through the center and edge, and a bag supporting means mounted in said apertured bar and socketmember.
