This construction may be applied to windows or other devices where there are moving sections. It will be noted that the side frame pieces, as shown in Figs. i2 and 3, are made up of an outside channel, an inside plate, a pinion mounted Between them, with racks between the chan- 4nel and plaie. each rack having a part projecting through the space between the charinel and plate, the channel and plate rigidly connected together at intervals, and that the plato may be in one or several'pieces as desired. lt will further be noted that when these side frame pieces are connected together in any desired manner, as by cross pieces of any suit-able shape, the frame is formed. The side pieces may be made up in the shop complete, ,so that the parts are properly held together and properly prot-ect- 'ed during shipment, and the frame can then be easily and quickly completed at the point of use E, lt will also be seen that these side tramo pieces constitute a trame for guiding- 3.5 the movable sections, a support. for the mov able sections, operating mechanism therefor, 4a balancing device, and a weather protecting device. vThe side'picces are detachably connected. l prefer to detachably connect the ,to parts l and 2 together. A device for windows, etc., comprising a side frame provided with a one-piece member bent up at its edges to form a trough, and a pinion located in said member between said bent edges, a plate located in said member between said bent edges and of less width than said member so as to leave open spaces between the edges of said plate and the bentI edges of said member,a
` rack engaging said pinion, said rack having a part which engages the edge of said plate so as to be guided thereby, and which prol jects beyond said plate.

A device tor windows, etc., comprising a side frame piece made up of an outside piece having a flat outside face, the edges thereof bent inwardly, an inside piece fastened to the. outside piece so as to form an inclosed space between said pieces, a pinion located .in said space, two racks within said space, each having a portion which engages said pinion` saidinncr piece overlapping the portions ot' both racks which engage tho pinion. y

A device for wiiidows,'etc., comprising` a unit frame piece, made up of an outside inclosing piece andan inside inclosing piece, fastened together so as totleave a space between them, a pinion in said space, racks having toothed portions in said spare rvand engaging said pinion, said outside and 1nside inclosing ieces engaging said racks so as to prevent t ieir lateral movement.
