UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK E. OPI'IZ AND ROBERT E. EG'BERT, OF POMONA, CALIFORNIA.
SPRINKLER-HEAD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 2, 1911.
Serial No. 663,523.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, FRANK E. OPITZ and ROBERT R. EGBERT, citizens of the United States, residing at Pomona, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sprinkler-Heads; and we do hereby declare the followin to be a full, clear, and exact description 0' the invent-ion, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in sprinkler heads and consists essentially in the provision of means whereby the sprinkler tube or head is provided with transverse slots and in the provision of folding means whereby the tube may be held at different elevations.
The invention comprises various details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
We illustrate our invention in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a sprin kler head made in accordance with our invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the folding means in a closed relation, and Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view through one of the transverse slots in the head or tube.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a sprinkler head or tube, which may be of any length or size, having a closed end B and a series of transverse slots D formed in the tube and extending partially about the circumference, as shown clearly in Fig. 3 of the drawings, and a hose E is shown as connected to one end of the tube or head. A series of straps F are fastened to the tube at any suitable locations and pivotally connected at their outer ends to said straps are the links K, the inner ends of which are preferably curved and pivoted together by means of a pin N. Said straps are loosely mounted upon the tube, so that they may slide thereon when the links are opened or closed to assume the positions shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings. It will be noted that the various links are arranged in pairs and are disposed at inclinations to each other and form suitable supporting means for the tube and will tend to prevent the tube tipping sidewise. When the links are not in use, they may be folded back and out of the way, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
What we claim to be new is 1. In combination with a sprinkler head having transverse slots therein, straps movably mounted thereon, links connecting said straps and pivoted together and adapted to hold the head at different elevations, as set forth.
2. In combination with a tubular sprinkler head having transverse slots therein, straps about said head and movable thereon, links arranged in pairs, the members of each pair being pivoted together and to said straps, as set forth.
3. In combination with a tubular sprinkler head having transverse slots therein, straps about said head and movable thereon, links arranged in pairs, the members of each pair being pivoted together and to said straps, the two pairs of links which are pivoted to the same straps being disposed in planes at inclinations to each other to form braces to prevent the head moving laterally, as set forth.
In testimony whereof we hereunto aflix our signatures in the presence of two witnesses.
FRANK E. OPITZ. ROBERT R. EGBERT.
