HAME ATTACHMENT.
, JWCIJQT.
'dinard gisten @tutti @imita CHARLES H.`EASTE`, OF'SOUTH BOSTON,` MASSACHUSETTS.
Lenen Patent No. 102,100, aazedapn'z 10,1870.
The Schedule referred to in these Letten Patent and making p art ofthe same.
.Heime-Attachment; and that the following is a" full and exactdescription of the same, reference being had to the accompanying plate of drawings.
The attachment 'for hames, embraced in this invention is'more'particularly designed for use in harnesses for horses of vstreet-cars, heavy teams, &c.
Thisinvention consists of anindependent staple or eye, which is h nng onthe bolt which holds the tugstiap, and is adapted to carry a ling to'which the pole-chains or straps are hung, in such a manner that the rin'g and chains will be held on' from the hame, collar, tug-straps, and other vparts of the haine, and thus wear andinjury thereto are prevented. The
staple or eye, as located, vpossesses great strength `for the purpose intended.
Heretot'ore these pole-chain rings of the haine have been hung directly to those parts of the haine .carry- 'ing the .tngs or traces, and thus being in position to bear against the. tugs, wore them away, as also the parts carrying'them, and the haine itself; by the present invention, however, this wearing away of -the said parts is entirelyobviated.
In the'. accompanying plate of drawings my improved hame-attaohment is illustrated, .Figure 1 being a 'plan view of the attachment, showing the tug-strap and its hanging, together with a part of the hame; and
Figure 2, a view` of the above in partial elevation and'vertical section.
A, in the drawings, represents a portion of the Lhame, and
B, the part thereof for-the tug-strap C, this part being constructed in the ordinary manner of fixed projecting bearings D rD, connected together by s.
screw-bolt, E, fastened by a nut, F, and surrounded,
between the said bearings, by a loose sleeve, G, which the loop of the tug surrounds; y
H, an eye at underside ot' lower bearing D2 of 4hamehereinbeiore referred to, and is independent thereof' but fastened thereto by and through the said bolt E. l
This eye H is beyond the haine, and invit is hung axing, I, to receive a pole-chain or strap, and thus to secure it to the same.l
Heretofore this ring I has been hung directly to the lower bearing D2 ot' the tug-receiving part of the hame, between the tug and the hame, as, for instance, at O, in the drawings, but by such mode, as before' stated, it continually bore and rubbed against the tugstrap, wearing it away, as also the hame', and otherwise obviously causing injury, whereas, by hanging the said ring to an eye independent of said bearing D., as described, such friction and wearing of the parts is obviated.
The eye H being independent of the other parts, but retained in place' by the bearing D2 and the head of the bolt, possesses great strength, and is well able to withstand the strain brought upon it.
It may be well to here remark that the construction of -parts above described are in duplicate upon each hame, one upon each side thereof'.
H aving`tln1s described my improved .hame-attach ment,
What AI claim, and desire, -to secure by Letters Patent, isl' The independent eye H, hnng on the bolt E, and receiving the ring I, substantially as and -for the purpose described.
