To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CARL G. JANSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the count-y of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sidewalk-ElevatonDoor Frames, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to frames for side walk doors and the principal object of the same is to provide simple means whereby the frame will carry off all water that may pass through the edges of the doors and convey the water to the gutter so that the cellar will be kept free from dampness.

In carrying out the objects of the invention generally stated above it will be understood, of course, that the essential features thereof are necessarily susceptible of changes in details and structural arrangements, one preferred and practical embodiment of which is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a top plan view, partly broken away, of a sidewalk opening equipped with the improved frame and shown sealed by the doors. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on the line 22, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary sectional view taken on the line 3-3, Fig. 1. Fig. i is a similar view taken on the line 44, Fig. 1.

Referring to the accompanying drawings by numerals, it will be seen that the improved frame is formed of angular metal bars shaped to provide the straight body 1 that hangs over the edge of the usual cellar opening and lies flush against the inner surface thereof. The upper portion of said body projects at right angles thereto and is curved to provide a trough 2 that lies on or is embedded in the upper surface of the edge of the sidewalk opening. The frame is shaped to surround the sidewalk opening and at the corner thereof adjacent the gutter of the sidewalk, the trough 2 is provided with out-lets 3 which communicate with drains 4 that convey the water to said gutter.

A channel bar 5 extends cent-rally across the frame.

At suitable intervals the lower portion of body 1 carries hinge supports 6 to which the hinge cars 7 are riveted or otherwise rigidly fastened. Said hinge ears are pivot-ally connected to other hinge ears 8 carried by the doors 9. Said doors slope and overhang toward the side troughs 2 of the frame as indicated at 10 so that water will be drained to said troughs. The meeting edges of said doors rest on channel bar 5 when closed so that water that may pass through said edges will he caught by said bar and drained to the trough 2.

It will be seen from the foregoing that the improved frame provides simple means whereby water that seeps over the edges of the doors is caught and conveyed to the sidewalk gutter so that said water cannot gain access to the cellar.

What I claim as my invention is A frame formed of angle iron and comprising a side portion adapted to fit within a door opening, and an upper portion positioned at substantially right angles and curved to form a longitudinally extending trough, the edges of which being adapted to lie flush with the pavement, brackets connected with said strips, hinge ears carried by said brackets, and doors hinged to said hinge ears and adapted to rest upon said frame with the sides overhanging said trough.
