Be it known that l. @nantais lV. hl'oCLUnn. a citizen of the United States, residing' at Saginaw', in the county of Saginaw and State .of lilichig'an, hare invented certain new and uset'ul Improvements in Silo-Root' Constructions; and l do hereby decl` "e the following to be a full. clear` and exactv description ol the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art` to which itappertains to make and use the saine.
This invention is a root'y construction tor silos and the objects ot the improvement are to providea root tor silos that simple in construction. inexpensive, and the parts ot which'are so arranged that they can be couveniently packed for shipment and can be readily assembled on the silo with the Jniniintim amount of labor.
The constiaietion also comprises means whereby the root" is tree troni the wall ot the silo to enable the silo hoops to be tightened without disturbing' the root' and also to enable the silo walls to expand independently of the roof when the silo is filled., and for vertically adjusting' the apex ot the root to make it tight.
The invention consists in certain novel constructions and combinations otparts and the efpiivalents thereof.y whereby these olojer''s are attained, as will be fully set vforth in the specification and pointed out in the claims.

As is clearly shown vin *he drawings, l represents thenpper part of a silo wall to which the root is to be applied.
2 is a segment-shaped roof section, and 3 the root' assein AQ'irder and cen is the center post by which the apex of the assembled root' is supported.
1l is a two-piece `irder spanning the top ot' the Isilo and carryingthe post 3 atI itsmiddle.
A collar 5 ot cast iron or other suitable G0 material is fitted to the upper part of 'the post 3 and it is to this collar that the upper ends ot the root sections 2 are secured. The means by which the root' sections are secured to the collar is illustrated in Figs. L (3 and 65 9, where 6 represents ay plurality1 of holes formed in the flange ot' the collar 5, and 7 is a hook bolt secured atr one end to the upper extremity ot the segmental root seetion 2 and adapted to be hooked into one ot 70 the holes (l. as shown in Figs. Lland 7.
Any desired number ot' sections may be employed but l prefer to provide twelve so that each section may be ot' a sii/.e suitable to be easily and eoiivenient-ly handled.
In practice l prefer to provide one of the sections Q with a. trap door S through which to insert the detiector or blow pipe end of a silo filler.
To the lower or outer end of the side inenibers ot each pair of adjacent sections is pivotally secured a loop 9 adapted to engage .a screw hook 10 screwed i-nto the silo wall.
The hook l() is first turned up, then the loop 9 is assed under it and the hook l() is then 85 turned down, as shown in Fig'. 8.
In assembling the. roof, each section is engaged with the collar. and when all the sections are in place, it the lower ends of the sections are too loose or too tight together, the center post il is raised or lowered accordingly. This vertical adjustment of the center post is accomplished by means of a wedge ll inserted between the top of the girder il: and the shoulder l2 o a` tenon 95 'toi-med on the post 3. as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 7, or by any other equivalent device capable of vertically adjusting the upper ends of the root sections. The outer ends ot the sections are then engaged with the silo wall by incans yoit the loop 9 and hook l0.

The apex ot the roof is rendered waterable Water-proof roofing 15 and the jointsl between the adjacent roof sections may be protected byradially extending battens 16.
By the means above described have produced a silo roof that. is simple in construction, easy to transport and assemble and capable of being put together without the aid of 'skilled labor.
Havingdescribed my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. In combination with a silo wall, a 'roof comprising a transverse girder carried by said wall, an upright post carried by said girder, a plurality ot' segmental roofsec-- tions, means carried by said post for removably securing the upper ends ot' said roof sections,'means for holding the lower ends of said sections to said silo wall, and
means adapted to vertically adjust'itheup per ends of said sections and thereby fit said: sections together.
2. In combination with a silo wall, a twopart transverse girder extending diametrically across walt, a post received between the tnembers of said girder, said post formed with a shoulder, lifting means be tween said shoulder and girder, a 4plurality v of segmental roof sections, a collar on said post, means carried by the upper end of each section adapted to engage said collar,`
and fastening means for the lower ends of said sections. l
3, In combination with the segmental roof of a silo, said root' comprising a plulower ends of said sections to said silo wall,
but adapted to permit independent inward and outward adjustment ot' said wall, and means adapted to vertically adjust the upper ends of said sections and thereby fit said sections together. In testimony whereof, I affix my signature in presenceof two witnesses.
