Description

U. FUNK.
BOOT TREE. A APPLIUATION FILED JUNE 27, 1911.
Patented Feb. 27, 1912.
[lire/afar:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHRISTIAN FUNK, OF HEIDELBERG, GERMANY.
' BOOT-TREE.
Application filed June 27, 1911.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I CHRISTIAN FUNK, a citizen of the German Empire, and residing at Heidelberg, German Empire, have invented new and useful Improvements in Boot lrees, of which the following is a description.
The present invention relates to boot trees and the object is to provide a cheap form of boot tree which may easily be adjusted to stretch boots of different lengths.
The device consists advantageously of a metal plate bent or curved approximately to the form of the instep and having a pair of longitudinal flanges inside providedwith a series of holes. A toggle bow of stout wire or the like serves to stretch the boot, one of its legs pressing against the heel, while a second bow extends to the toes. The adjacent ends of the shanks of the two bows are bent round outwardly and may be sprung into the holes of the instep plate flanges, according to the size of the boot to be stretched.
In order to render the present specification easily intelligible reference had tothe accompanying drawing in which similar letters of reference denote similar parts throughout the several views.
Figure l is a longitudinal section through the device, Fig. 2 a perspective view of the same, Fig. 3 a cross section on line AB of Fig. 1 and Fig. t a sectional elevation of a boot with the tree therein.
The device consists of a plate a bent to approximately fit the instep of the boot 0r shoe and having flanges b slotted out of the same and bent inwardlyand provided with a series of orifices c as may be clearly seen from'Fig. 3. A bow (Z having the ends 7' of its shanks bent outwardly fits the toe por- Specification of Letters Patent.

tion of .the boot or shoe and the outwardly bent endsf of the shanks may be sprung into two opposite holes of the flanges Z). A toggle bow c It fits theheel of the boot and when expanded stretches the boot. The outwardly .hent ends of the heel bow 7i engage one pair of eyes (7 of the how 0, several pairs of eyes 9 being provided in the shanks of the bow e to allow of the adjustment of the length of the same.
The tree is fitted into the boot in the manner illustrated in Fig. 4'.
I claim as my invention v1. A boot tree consisting of a plate curved to approximately (it the instep of the boot or shoe said plate having a pair of inwardly extending longitudinal flanges provided with orifices inside the said plate, a toe bow and heel toggle bow of adjustable length each having the adjacent ends of their shanks bent outwardly and adapted to engage the orifices the said instep plate.
2. A boot tree consisting of a plate curved to approximately fit the instep of the boot or shoe said plate having a pair of inwardly extending longitudinal flanges provided with orifices inside the said plate, a toe bow and heel toggle how each havlng the adjacent ends of their shanks bent outwardly and adapted to engage the orifices of the said instep plate, a series of eyes in' one member of the toggle bow and outwardly bent shank endson the other member to engage said eves.
u In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
